Music theory
Carla Colletti holds a Ph.D. in music theory from the University of Iowa, a Masters
degree in music performance and composition from Western Illinois University, and
a Bachelor of Music in music performance from Millikin University. She joins the
Webster faculty after having taught at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
Her doctoral dissertation, An Interdisciplinary Approach to Selected Works by Francis
Poulenc, explores how methods of inquiry derived from surrealism are applicable to
three works by Francis Poulenc. Dr. Colletti’s other research interests include 19th-century
German Romanticism, 20th-century music and art, and music theory pedagogy.
Dr. Colletti is also an oboist, and in addition to teaching private lessons, she has
performed with a variety of ensembles including the Cedar Rapids Symphony, Southeast
Iowa Symphony, the Nova Singers, and the Iowa City Chamber Singers.
