Adjunct Professor of Collaborative Piano
Pianist A. Matthew Mazzoni's love of music has led him to expressive performances
as soloist, collaborative artist, and ensemble musician. As a collaborator, his extensive
performance experience includes significant vocal and instrumental repertoire. He
performs regularly as a duo partner with his wife, flutist Jennifer Toro Mazzoni,
recently winning a prize with the St. Louis Artist Presentation Society. Other notable
collaborators include flutists Gary Schocker and Tadeu Coelho, and euphonium soloist
Stephen Mead. A recording with flutist Kyle Dzapo appears on the NAXOS label, and
additional recordings are to be released with clarinetist Scott Locke and euphonium
soloist Brandon Jones.
In the St. Louis area, Mazzoni has appeared in concert at Christ Church Cathedral, the Sheldon Concert Hall, the Missouri Botanical Garden (broadcast on “From the Garden, LIVE”), the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, the Eliot Chapel, and Webster University Concert Series. His work as a theater musician includes productions at the Muny and the Winter Opera of St. Louis, and he has served as the choral pianist for The Sheldon Chorale, the Archdiocesan Choir, and the Archdiocesan Children's Chorus.
As an educator, Mr. Mazzoni formerly served on the faculty of Murray State University where he was the collaborative piano specialist and taught courses in music theory, keyboard, and accompanying. His teaching also includes precollege music programs in Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. Mr. Mazzoni earned a Performer Diploma and MM at Indiana University and two undergraduate degrees from the University of Michigan in Piano and Music Theory. His principal teachers include Shigeo Neriki and Arthur Greene, with additional studies and masterclasses with Julian Martin, Yong Hi Moon, and Yoheved Kaplinsky.
Currently, Mr. Mazzoni is the Director of Liturgical Music at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where he serves as the director of a diversity of choral and instrumental ensembles, as well as the principal organist.
