Gift Planning – Life Insurance

Gifts of life insurance can be arranged in multiple ways:

  • Most commonly, a policy that is no longer needed for its original purpose is given to Webster - and the University becomes the policy’s owner. The policy might have been purchased to protect a mortgage that is now paid in full or for the benefit of family members who are now financially secure. A tax deduction is available approximately equal to the cash surrender value of the policy.

  • Webster can also be named as the beneficiary of an existing policy, either solely or with other beneficiaries. Your insurance carrier can provide you with a change of beneficiary form.

  • New policies are sometimes favored by those desiring to pay premiums regularly to guarantee a larger deferred gift. When the University is also named as the owner of a new policy, you are entitled to a yearly tax deduction for the premium amount.
