Eligibility

U.S. Students

Applicants must be U.S. citizens pursuing an undergraduate degree at any college or university in Missouri or WINS partner institution. Students must be in good standing, have intermediate foreign language proficiency where applicable, and have either work experience or coursework relevant to the placement. Graduate students are encouraged to apply, and recent graduates may be accepted on a space-available basis.

Students applying for placement in non-Anglophone locations are expected to have intermediate foreign language proficiency and benefit from intensive language practice through the internship, home stay and social activities.

Global Students

Applicants must be attending a participating Webster University campus or an active GIE partner institution including the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg, ITESM, Universidad Panamericana, Kansai University, etc. Students must be in good standing, have English language proficiency, and have either work experience or coursework relevant to the placement. Global candidates must apply for the GIE through the partner University to be considered. Additionally, students must have a 3.0 GPA, and for the corporate track, must have a TOEFL score of 550 as well as work experience or relevant coursework. Graduate students are encouraged to apply.

College Credit

U.S. participants who wish to receive college credit for this internship are responsible for making arrangements in advance with their advisor. All arrangements are exclusively between the departmental advisor and the student.

Travel Opportunities

Students may take up to three weeks of optional travel, independently, after completing the internship. The program may also work in conjunction with study abroad opportunities.

U.S. Student Fees

A non-refundable program fee of $1250 per admitted student is due by March 1, 2013. Webster University students receive a discount. There is no charge to apply. Room/board, flight, insurance, local transportation, personal expenses and visa costs are paid out of pocket during spring and summer 2013, vary by program and are the responsibility of the participant. Housing is often, but not always, with a host family and is arranged only for the duration of the internship. Students are responsible for personal costs while in their host country. Expenses vary with amount of additional travel and lifestyle.

Global Student Fees

There is no charge to apply. Placements are available with GIE corporate and non-profit partners based in the greater St. Louis area. This highly competitive program offers opportunities to gain professional experience in the American workplace. Placements are available in business, computer science, marketing, accounting, and other fields. Administrative fee: $500 includes placement and orientation.

U.S. Participant Room & Board

The program arranges room and board for each participant for the duration of the internship. Housing is usually with a host family. Cost varies by location.

Global Participant Room & Board

J-1 student participants are placed with a host family for the duration of the internship. Fee: $500. F-1 student participants should make independent housing arrangements.

Flight Expectations 

Students make their own travel arrangements prior to departure and must provide an itinerary to the GIE office at least one month in advance. All travel is at the student’s expense.
