How to Apply for Global Leadership Academy

THE 2017 GLA APPLICATION IS NOW CLOSED. REVISIT THIS PAGE BEGINNING JULY 28, 2017, FOR THE 2018 GLA APPLICATION.

The Global Leadership Academy application process involves three simple steps.

  1. Write a personal statement.
  2. Line up a reference.
  3. Complete our online application.

Applications will be accepted through 5pm CDT on Friday, September 29, 2017. We hope to announce the 2018 Cohort by the end of October.

Step One: Write a personal statement. Consider the three overall objectives of the Global Leadership Academy.

  1. Provide a comprehensive and grounded understanding of Webster in all its complexity.
  2. Develop and enhance leadership skills of faculty and staff at Webster.
  3. Create ambassadors to the communities Webster serves.

Select one of the objectives and in a one-page statement, detail your understanding of the objective and how your participation in the Global Leadership Academy would enhance the objective for yourself, your department, and the university as a whole. Be prepared to upload the statement when you fill out the application.

Step Two: Ask a colleague to write a statement of reference for you. This person does not have to be your supervisor.  Please provide them with this statement:

"Describe how the applicant would contribute to the group dynamics and group learning process if selected for the 2018 Global Leadership Academy Cohort. Please limit your response to 150 words or less."

Be prepared to upload this statement as you fill out the application.

Step Three: Complete the online application.

In your application we will ask for contact information for your direct supervisor, dean, or campus director. They will be asked to complete the following short questionnaire about your department's needs:

  • Consider your department's challenges and opportunities. Would this individual's participation in the Global Leadership Academy benefit your department?
  • Participation in the Global Leadership Academy requires three full weeks of sessions and seminars. Will your department be able to accommodate this individual's participation in the GLA?

Three online information sessions about the GLA will be held via WebEx.
