    Use of the University Logo

    General Use of the Logo

A successful identity program requires a consistent graphic look in all communications.

Please follow these basic guidelines for the correct use of the University logo:

    1. Use the logo in all printed or graphic communication from the University.
    2. Do not use the logo next to or near any other logo or mark.
    3. Do not modify or embellish the logo in any way.

    Maximum and Minimum Sizes

While there is no maximum size limitation for the logo, it should not be graphically altered in any way. The acceptable minimum reproduction size is 0.75" in length for the primary logo. If you want to reproduce smaller than this size you must receive permission from the Office of Marketing.

    Use of Color

The logo only should be printed in only Pantone 280 blue and Pantone 136 gold or in only black.

    Reverse Logotypes

The logo can be used in reverse form against a dark background.

    Primary Logo Clearspace

Clear space requirements must be observed, except in special, pre-approved circumstances.

    Use of the Seal

The seal is reserved for use on the official documents of the University such as diplomas, medallions, awards and honorary certificates. The seal also is used as a watermark on letterhead.

The seal should not be used as a design element on the cover of brochures, pamphlets, flyers, publications or University merchandise. The seal should not be used next to or in combination with the University logo, or modified in any way.

Permission for use of the seal in any manner except on official University documents, or in connection with official University functions, must be secured from the Office of the President.

    Typography

The typeface for the University logo is Sabon. The Sabon family (Roman, bold, italic, bold italic) also is the typeface encouraged for the body text of official University publications. Garamond or Palatino are encouraged if Sabon is unavailable.

The recommended typefaces should be used in University publications in which a specific typeface is not specified. The goal is to establish a continuity of appearance that supports the University brand while promoting a cohesive, professional look to printed communication materials.

In order to meet this goal, there are certain typefaces that should be avoided, including: Braggadocio, Chalkboard, Comic Sans MS, Curlz MT, Lucinda Handwriting, Mistral, Playbill, Sand, Stencil and other similar typefaces.

    Use of the Gorlok

The name "Gorlok" was derived from the combination of two streets that intersect in the heart of "Old Webster," Gore and Lockwood avenues. The Gorlok should always be appear in Pantone 280 blue and Pantone®136 gold; all Pantone 280 blue; or all black. The Gorlok should not be modified in any way.

    Athletic Use Only

A new version of the Gorlok, along with a “WU logo, was created in 2006 specifically for the Athletic Department. The new Gorlok and accompanying “WU” is limited to athletic use only. Permission to use these new logos must come from the Athletic Department.
