Labwebs Information
Basics
Labwebs and Hermes are servers where accounts are hosted for students enrolled in specific classes. Labwebs accounts usually consist of student accounts in the Computer Science and Web Development/Web Services programs. Hermes accounts usually consist of student accounts in the Education programs.
As a student, you are unable to request accounts on either of these servers. These accounts are reserved for students registered in specific courses. At the beginning of each semester, professors who wish to utilize this server space for their classes submit a request to have accounts created for their students. After the accounts are created, the professor will then inform their students of how to access and upload to this web space.
Space
Students are given 10MB of space for their labwebs and hermes accounts. This is a set amount of space and any request for more space will be denied. If you find yourself out of space, you will need to delete unused files to make more room.
Username/Password
If you are unable to login to your labwebs or hermes account, please confirm you are using the correct username and password:
-
For labwebs accounts from the Fall 2006 semester and beyond, your username will be the same as your Connections username (i.e. joesmith60). If you had an account prior to this time, your username may be the first FIVE letters from your last name, followed by the first THREE letters from your first name. Always try your Connections username first.
-
Your password is your 7 digit student ID number.
Accessing
To access your web space and view the files you have uploaded, you must type in the following URL in the address bar of your browser:
http://labwebs.webster.edu/userid
**Note the “userid” must be replaced by your user labwebs username, for example “josephsmith60”**
You will be prompted for a username and password. Use the username and password as described in the previous section.
Uploading Files
To upload files to your server space, you will need to use an FTP program, such as WS_FTP or Fetch. For the server/host name, you will want to ensure you type in labwebs.webster.edu or hermes.webster.edu depending upon the type of account. Aside from ensuring you are using the correct settings for your account, the Webster University Help Desk is unable to provide support in how to use an FTP program. If you need assistance in that regard, please contact your instructor.
If you suspect technical issues with your account, please refer to your instructor first for initial troubleshooting.
