In the event of a fire, flood, theft or other emergency, the University does not cover students' personal items. College students today keep about $5,000- $10,000 of personal property in their rooms. It can cost a lot to replace stolen or damaged property.

Your parents’ homeowner policy may be able to help, but these policies often exclude certain items, and can have very high deductibles. Renter’s Insurance can provide protection for you and your property.

Renter’s Insurance typically covers property lost by theft, disaster, or accidental damage. Items that can be covered include computers and electronics, cell phones, televisions and stereos, bicycles, sports equipment, clothing and jewelry, musical instruments, textbooks and school supplies, and more.

Prices can be affordable for most college students, usually ranging from $15 to $30 per month. Policies are generally based on quality and quantity of possessions, location, and square footage.
