ADMINISTRATIVE AND ACADEMIC TEAM

REGIONAL DIRECTOR FOR NORTH FLORIDA: Dr. Pat Sager

Dr. Pat Sager is the energetic Regional Director for North Florida who oversees the North Florida campuses operations. Her twenty-three (23) year career with Webster University has encompassed three (3) countries and five (5) different extended campus locations. Pat opened and developed Webster University's first international campus in Keflavik, Iceland February 1978. Due solely to her initiative, Pat developed and opened her second international campus in Bermuda in 1981. In 1988, Pat was fortunate to be given the golden opportunity to bring Webster University into the state of Florida by establishing the first campus at Mayport Naval Station. This was a true milestone in Pat's personal vision for Webster University’s extended campus network since she is a native of Florida and wanted Webster University to have an extended campus presence in her home state.

Pat opened the Naval Air Station Jacksonville location in 1990 as the second campus in North Florida. The flagship location for North Florida followed with the Jacksonville Metropolitan Campus, which opened in June 1993 with the MBA major, and five (5) M.A majors that offered not only weeknights but also alternating Saturday or Sunday course offerings for busy professionals. Pat's leadership has nurtured a 200% growth in enrollment for the North Florida Region by establishing a quality academic presence and a strong corporate location identity that blends theory and practice into a meaningful learning experience for graduate students.

Pat is a 1980 graduate of University of Maryland with a B.S. in Political Science and Adult Education. She completed her MA with Webster in Iceland in 1981 in Management and Human Relations. Pat received her Doctorate from the University of North Florida in Educational Leadership in 1999. Her dissertation and major area of study is marketing to adult learners in higher education and a comparison of non-traditional distance learning graduate programs.

ACADEMIC ADVISORS NORTH FLORIDA REGION

To request an advising appointment, please call:

Jacksonville Metro at (904) 268-3037 or Orange Park/NAS at (904) 779-7124

JACKSONVILLE CAMPUS

&

ORANGE PARK/NAS JAX CAMPUS

All Academic Advisors are available by appointment to both new and continuing students for individual counseling and/or replotting of student's academic schedules. Students may request appointments with any advisor for daytime, evening, or weekend scheduling throughout each term, to accommodate student's time constraints.
The Academic Advisor is also available to assist students who may be experiencing difficulties in their classes and/or course work. Of course, it is always best to speak personally with the respective instructor first when experiencing any such difficulties -- since each Webster faculty member is available to teach but, also, to serve as a mentor and facilitator for a student's academic growth. Nevertheless, if a student is still experiencing difficulties after speaking with the respective instructor, they are encouraged to make an appointment to meet with the Academic Advisor. Please note, however, it is of utmost importance to address any such academic problems or concerns as early in the term as possible -- and not wait until the end of the term, which often is too late!

Rita Braunegg (Jacksonville Campus)

Rita has a BS degree in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh, PA, and earned her MBA from Webster University. Throughout her 23 year healthcare career, Rita has held numerous management and financial analyst positions. Presently, she is the Financial Aid Representative for the Jacksonville Metropolitan and NAS Jax campus locations and the program assistant for the MA in Counseling program. As a Webster alumnus, she brings her academic student experience to the advising process for the benefit of potential candidates. Rita is available for evening appointments at Jacksonville Metropolitan Campus.

Linda Schindler (NAS Campus)

Linda has a BA degree in Education from Millersville University, PA and a Masters degree in Library Science from Pratt University, NY. Linda is the part time program assistant and Academic Advisor for both locations. She is able to help students to register as well as handle the paperwork process and academic advising concerns during scheduled advising times with office hours. Linda is also the JACK METRO Academic Advisor on Saturdays for students who desire a weekend advising session. Linda specializes in replotting returning students and transfer of credits from other institutions. Linda is responsible for ordering textbooks for all classes in North Florida.

FACULTY

The Webster adjunct faculty of North Florida Region is composed of highly selected individuals who are not only qualified academically to teach at the graduate level but are extremely successful professionals in the respective fields in which they teach. In other words, the hallmark of a Webster faculty member is his/her ability, knowledge, and expertise in integrating theory with "real world" practice in each class session and class project. The faculty is selected through an extensive process -- starting first locally by the Regional Director who, after extensive interviews and evaluations, recommend the designated potential faculty member to Webster University's Graduate Council at main campus in St. Louis, for further review and final approval. Faculty members are continuously monitored, and counseled if necessary, to insure the quality of instructional methodologies and curriculum content, design, and delivery used in their class.

REQUIREMENTS, CATALOG, ENROLLMENT, AND REGISTRATION

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Individuals with an undergraduate degree from regionally accredited institutions are eligible to apply for entrance into the Graduate Studies Program at Webster University. If accepted, students must arrange for their Official undergraduate transcripts to be sent from their repective degree granting institution(s) directly to either Webster University North Florida campuses before the end of the student's first term at Webster. Our local administrative staff will then process and forward the Official Transcripts to the University's Main Campus in St. Louis for inclusion in the student's file. Please note:

OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE REQUESTED BY THE STUDENT AND MAILED TO EITHER OF WEBSTER'S NORTH FLORIDA LOCATIONS BY YOUR UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE GRANTING INSTITUTION, AND MUST SHOW THE STUDENT'S GRADUATION DATE. Official Transcripts may NOT be stamped "student copy" or hand carried by the student.

You may obtain an "Undergraduate Transcript Request Form" from a North Florida campus staff member to expedite the process. It is important to note that students will not be allowed to continue their studies at Webster if Main Campus has not received a copy of the student's official undergraduate transcripts before the end of the student's second semester at Webster.

CATALOG:

Each student beginning an academic career at Jacksonville Metropolitan Campus or NAS Jacksonville Campus should obtain a Graduate Studies Catalog for the academic year in which the student begins their program. The catalog each student receives will serve as the basis for the student's course requirements, graduation requirements, etc.

Students are encouraged to keep their catalogs throughout their academic career. This document is the one under which students will receive their degrees. In the event graduation requirements for a degree change, a student will receive their degree based upon the catalog received at the time the student is accepted into the program -- reserving exceptions for unique and uncontrollable circumstances.

ENROLLMENT / REGISTRATION
:

Currently enrolled students are given preference for enrolling in classes each term.

Approximately five (5) weeks prior to each new term, Pre-Registration Packets are distributed to all current students. These packets contain pre-registration forms and course listings. Students are urged to complete the forms and return them to the administration office as early as possible to ensure a seat in the class(es) of their choice.

Cautions:
While students may register for a course of their choice, we strongly advise that courses should be taken in the order they appear on the student's academic program plan -- deviations from the planned program could easily affect a student's graduation date. Should circumstances necessitate a change in one's academic program plan, the student should then consult with an academic advisor in order to review all possibilities, including prerequisites for specific courses, prior to registration.

ACADEMIC LOAD, TRANSFER CREDITS, AND ATTENDANCE

ACADEMIC LOAD:

Students are considered to be in attendance half-time by taking one (1) course (three credit hours) per term. Any student attending half-time can complete five (5) courses (fifteen credit hours) of study in an academic year.

Students are considered to be in attendance full-time by taking two (2) courses (six credit hours) per term. Any student attending full-time may complete ten (10) courses (thirty credit hours) of study in an academic year.

Any student wishing to take three (3) courses in any given term must receive prior approval from the Regional Director for North Florida. This approval is given sparingly due to the tremendous amount of responsibility a three (3) course load can put upon a student's academic, professional, and personal life.

TRANSFER CREDIT:

A maximum of twelve (12) credit hours in graduate courses may be transferred into a student's MA degree program at Webster University. A maximum of nine (9) credit hours if students are pursing the MBA. These credit hours must come from a regionally accredited graduate institution or professional military education and are subject to evaluation and approval. (Students considering dual majors may not have any transfer credit options.)

ATTENDANCE:

Students are expected to attend all class sessions of every course. In the case of unavoidable absence, the student must contact the instructor. The student is subject to appropriate academic penalty for incomplete or unacceptable makeup work, or for excessive or unexcused absences. Generally, a student who misses more than one four-hour course period (per course) without a documented military or medical excuse and advanced permission of the instructor should withdraw from the class. The University reserves the right to involuntarily drop enrolled students from classes, which they do not attend.

SYLLABI, TEXTBOOKS

SYLLABUS:

Faculty are required to prepare a syllabus for each course and will put forth every effort to have each course syllabus available at the start of registration. Students may retrieve the Syllabi prior to class at our local website:  www.webster.edu/jack.

TEXTBOOKS:

Order your textbooks at least two weeks before your class begins.  If you order later than this, have your books shipped overnight to ensure that you receive them in time for class.  This is your responsibility.

You have many choices for ordering textbooks.
Webster University recommends the following sources:

  1. BN.com - Barnes and Noble's online bookstore offers new and used textbooks.

  2. eCampus.com - Online bookstore that sells new and used textbooks.

Used Books
The Jacksonville Metropolitan Campus and the NAS Jax Campus each retain a list of students who wish to sell their used books. Students are welcome to sell or purchase their books through this process. Students considering used books need to purchase the correct edition listed in the syllabus with the appropriate software if applicable. Please read your syllabus carefully and consult with a member of the administrative staff for more information.

ADD, DROP, WITHDRAWAL, REFUNDS

A student may add or drop a course prior to the conclusion of the Add/Drop period. Informing the course instructor is not sufficient notice for dropping or adding a course. Personnel at Jacksonville Metropolitan Campus or NAS JAX Campus must be notified to initiate this procedure.

ADD:

A student may add a course within six (6) calendar days of the first officially scheduled class meeting of the course session. Absence from one (1) class meeting is permitted when adding a course. (Please note: instructors may require an assignment or a one-on-one meeting to "make-up" this missed first class).

DROP:

A student may drop a course within six (6) calendar days of the first officially scheduled class meeting of the course session. When dropping a course, the enrollment is not recorded, tuition charges are not incurred, and no V.A. certification is processed.

WITHDRAWAL:

After the Add/Drop period has passed, a student may withdrawal from a course by completing a "Withdrawal Petition" prior to the Friday of the sixth week of the term. A grade of "W" will be recorded on the transcript. V.A. students should be aware that the regional V.A. office will be notified of the date on which a student officially ceased attendance. Students should consult refund section below to determine whether or not they are due a refund of previously paid tuition.

REFUNDS:

The following tuition rates apply when a student drops or withdraws from a course:

Week #1: 100% Refund
Week #2: 100% Refund
Week #3: 50% Refund
Week #4: 25% Refund
Week #5-9: 0% Refund

FACULTY AND COURSE EVALUATIONS

Each student is requested to complete a faculty and course evaluation form at the end of each term. The evaluation will be distributed and collected by an Academic Advisor or a staff member during the last class meeting of each course. Students are urged to not only complete the evaluation forms but to also add any comments they wish to make at the bottom/back of the form or on an additional sheet of paper. Students may request an evaluation form prior to the last class meeting if a student has to miss the last class session or if more time is desired for the completion of the form.

It is important to note the students’ evaluations and commentaries are critical to Webster University’s ongoing quality control and improvement efforts supported by the North Florida Regional Director and the main campus administrative and academic team. Students may be assured that instructors do not see the handwritten student commentaries. Faculty members only receive a computed and typewritten copy of the evaluations two to three weeks after grades have been submitted at the end of each term. The raw data of the students’ evaluations and commentaries remain confidential.

Should a student receive an incomplete, t is the students' responsibility to do the work required to remove an "I" grade. A student who has three (3) grades of "I" may not enroll in another term until at least one (1) of the three "I's" has been satisfactorily completed. A student will NOT be eligible for petition for graduation unless all of his/her "I" grades have been completed and the new grades officially reported to main campus at least eight (8) weeks prior to the student's proposed graduation date.

ACADEMIC WARNING, PROBATION, DISMISSAL

DISMISSAL:

A student who receives a grade of "C" and a grade of "F" or two (2) "C's" in the sequential M.A. or M.B.A. is dismissed from the program.

Dismissed students are automatically dropped from classes and withdrawn from the program when a dismissal letter is generated from Main Campus.

GRADUATION, DIPLOMAS, TRANSCRIPTS

GRADUATION:

Students registering for their last term of program study must complete a Petition to Graduate, pay a $25.00 graduation fee, and complete a final program evaluation form. A graduation ceremony is held once a year for the North Florida Region, usually in July. Ceremonial cap and gown can be purchased through Jostens. Any student who has officially graduated during the year prior to the ceremony is eligible to participate. Students who qualify may choose to graduate in St. Louis at the main campus ceremony in May, or at other campuses if more convenient.

Students who believe they are nearing graduation are urged to meet with an Academic Advisor to ensure that all program requirements have been met.

DIPLOMAS:

Webster Main Campus will issue Diplomas to students who have completed all degree requirements as long as students’ accounts are paid in full. Diplomas are sent at the conclusion of each term, five (5) terms per year.

TRANSCRIPTS:

Students may request their Webster transcripts anytime by completing a transcript request form obtained from the local administration office. There is no fee for transcripts nor are there a maximum number of requests a student can make. However, the university will issue official transcripts only if a student’s account is paid in full.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION

Both Jacksonville Metropolitan and NAS Jacksonville Campuses offer the following options when paying tuition. If questions arise regarding the following, please direct them to the administrative staff at the respective campus.

DEFERRED PAYMENT:

At the time of registration, students may choose the deferred payment option, which is to pay one-third of the tuition and pay the remaining balance in two (2) payments during that semester. It is extremely important that students make their payments according to the payment schedule. The first payment check should be brought or mailed to the local North Florida Campus so that the office has a record of payment being sent to the Business Office in St. Louis. Payment 2 and 3 are to be paid directly to the address as shown on the statement mailed to your home. Please remember – Webster does not accept cash payments. There is a $20.00 administrative fee when choosing the deferred payment option.

EMPLOYER REIMBURSEMENT:

Students who choose to use the deferred payment option (when applicable) by using their employer’s tuition reimbursement benefit to them, pay NO money down at the time of registration.

Students have until the registration period of their second semester to pay all tuition for one (1) previous semester. This allows a seven (7) week grace period for students to accomplish payment of tuition.

HOW TO USE THE EMPLOYER REIMBURSEMENT OPTION:

Any student who is eligible to take advantage of their employer’s full or partial (at least 50% of tuition cost) tuition reimbursement benefits may register with no payment due at the time of registration when the student provides the following:

  1. A copy of employer’s tuition reimbursement policy, or a letter on employer’s stationery outlining employer’s tuition reimbursement policy signed by employer.

  1. This policy or letter must clearly indicate whether such reimbursement policy is based on prior approval of specific courses or any other limitations imposed by the employer that may affect unconditional tuition reimbursement.
  1. This policy must state if tuition reimbursement is a "capped" dollar amount or limited in number of courses per semester or year: with a definition of a year, i.e. academic, calendar, or fiscal with appropriate dates identified for semester or year.
  1. Along with the copy of employer's tuition reimbursement policy or company letter, students must provide a letter from their employer to Webster University at the location they are attending stating that the employer’s tuition reimbursement policy provided to us is applicable to them and applicable to Webster University.

These two (2) employer reimbursement documents are only needed the first time students elect to use the employer reimbursement option, unless the employer requires course specific or capped dollar amount letters to the University each semester.

FINANCIAL AID:

ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY TUITION ASSISTANCE (T.A.):

T.A. forms may be picked up only at the Jacksonville Metropolitan or NAS Jax office during the week of registration for specific courses to be taken during that semester. Once students have the required signature authorizing participation, the form should be taken to the appropriate Military Education Office where students will receive an official T.A. authorization form. Please bring this official form to the Webster office when registering for classes. Student registrations can not be processed without the official T.A. form being returned to the Webster administrative office.

VETERANS ASSISTANCE (V.A.):

If using V.A. benefits to pay for courses, it is very important that students stay in touch with our office regarding receipt of V.A. checks. If a student has not received a V.A. check by the month following the end of the semester, please call 268-3037 so that we can contact the appropriate V.A. office to determine the cause of the delay. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure the V.A. is paying in a manner that allows students to pay tuition as agreed when signing the registration forms. Remember that the Business Office at main campus will return registrations and students will not be allowed to continue with classis if a student is more than one (1) semesters behind paying tuition.

Students should bring all paperwork received from the V.A. to the administration office to allow student records to be kept current so that students can be advised as to what is expected from the V.A. It is the student’s responsibility to bring us either a personal check for the amount the V.A. pays or the V.A. check as soon as payment is received so that we may forward the payment to the Business Office. Making payments through the Webster office allows us to maintain a local record of each student’s payments, and assist students if a payment lag should arise.

COMPUTER LAB/LIBRARY RESOURCES

Jacksonville Metro Campus

The Jacksonville Metropolitan Campus maintains nine (9) computers in the primary computer lab and eight (8) in the second lab. The computer labs may be used by students for research, word processing, or other classwork when a class is not using the lab. The labs WILL NOT be open during week breaks between semesters. It is always best to call for an appointment to use the equipment before dropping by, in case a class is using the lab. If you call, it allows us to schedule appointments in advance for computer usage so several students are not trying to use the same equipment at the same time.

Full Internet access is available in the Computer Lab, as well as Accounting, Statistical, Word Processing, and Presentation programs.

NAS Jax/Orange Park Campus

The NAS Jax/Orange Park Campus maintains ten (10) computers in the computer lab and three (3) computers in the Webster Internet Library. The computer lab and Internet Library may be used by students for research, word processing, or other class work when a class is not using the lab. The lab WILL NOT be open during week breaks between semesters. It is always best to call for an appointment to use the equipment before dropping by, in case a class is using the lab. If you call, it allows us to schedule appointments in advance for computer usage so several students are not trying to use the same equipment at the same time.
Full Internet access is available in the Computer Lab and Internet Library, as well as Accounting, Statistical, Word Processing, and Presentation programs.

Online Library Resources

The computer labs at both North Florida campuses allow students to utilize our online library resources. The same online library resources are accessible at home or work via their own Internet service provider. If a student desires such access, they will need to contact an Internet service provider such as Comcast, Earthlink, AT&T, or BellSouth and pay for an Internet account.

EQUIPMENT RESERVATION

Television, VCR’s, Overhead Projectors and Multi-Media equipment are available for use in the classrooms. While these units are generally used by the faculty, students may also use them to view assigned videos or to make presentations. We encourage all students to take advantage of equipment offered. IN ORDER TO USE THE TVs, VCRs, OVERHEAD PROJECTORS, OR MULTIMEDIA UNITS, STUDENTS MUST RESERVE THE EQUIPMENT TWO (2) WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF THE DESIRED USAGE DATE. Equipment Reservation Forms can be found in the computer lab for easy access to students. Multi-Media equipment must be shared among faculty, classes and students. ALL FACULTY MEMBERS MUST SIGN STUDENTS REQUESTS FOR MULTIMEDIA USAGE PRIOR TO COMPUTER RESOURCES PERSONNEL. If there are any questions regarding reservation of the computer lab or media equipment, please contact the Computer Lab personnel at 268-3037 for Jacksonville Metro Campus and 779-7124 for NAS Jax/Orange Park Campus.
