Passports

Passports is Webster University's online library resource system. From your own computer or one in our lab you can have 24 hour access to the 249,000 volumes in the Eden-Webster library plus millions more from libraries worldwide. All you need is a connection to the internet and a web browser (i.e. Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer).

Passports Address: http://library.webster.edu

Passports provides a lot of information to anyone who uses it but the Online/Full-text Resources are only available to faculty, students and staff of Webster University and Eden Theological Seminary. These resources will give you extensive information on all of the courses taught at the extended campuses. These databases include full-text journals, an online encyclopedia, reference works, full-text newspapers, investment reports, and extensive statistical sources. To gain access to these databases you must use your Webster University I.D number.

When you choose the databases you need on Passports, a box will ask for your student or faculty ID number. Your student ID number can be found on any official correspondence you receive from Webster University. Please note that your Social Security Number IS NOT you Student ID. If you don't know yours, check with your extended campus office.

PROBLEMS? QUESTIONS?

If you are a current student at Webster University-North Florida Region and need assistance using Passports, contact Casey Calhoun. Casey can be reached via e-mail: kcalhoun@webster.edu or by phone: 268-3037.

If you're having trouble accessing the databases, or any other difficulty with Passports, Rick Kaeser is the person to contact. He's the library's Document Delivery Assistant and main contact for the extended campuses and their students and faculty. Rick can be reached at: docdel@library2.webster.edu.

PERIODICAL ARTICLES BY DOCUMENT DELIVERY

On InfoTrac or FirstSearch you found and printed several full-text articles. The text of the 'best' article is not available on Passports, but you think Eden-Webster Library may subscribe to the journal. The Library's Document Delivery service can provide a copy of the article for all extended campus patrons. Document Delivery staff at the main campus can provide copies of articles from journals owned by the Library, usually within two business days.

All you have to do is: Make sure the Library subscribes to the journal. If you're using an InfoTrac database, click on the Retrieve icon to see what issues the Library has. In a FirstSearch database, click on the Libraries with Item button bar. If neither of these options is available, from the main Passports menu, click on Bridges to search the Library's online catalog. Do a title search for the journal title.

IF THE LIBRARY HAS THE ISSUE YOU NEED

Complete a document delivery request form. (There is an electronic form on Passports - from the main menu click on Electronic Forms/Services under Forms & Help.)

The article will be converted to electronic format and attached to the library server. An email will be sent to you with a link to the article. This usually takes two business days.

PASSPORTS: YOUR RESEARCH TOOL

Passports should become an important research tool for all extended campus students. Explore all of the possibilities from the online databases to the Internet resources. It provides an easy route to the Internet. Be sure to look at the Internet Resources by Subject Section which has been evaluated by the librarians. Remember that since the Internet is unmediated, the quality of the resources varies widely. In the same way that librarians select books and journals for the library, additional Internet resources are selected and evaluated by the library's nine subject specialists and arranged in subjects lists on Passports. The resources are authoritative and timely.
