Kansas City Commencement

Commencement 2019 Ceremony

The 44th Annual Commencement honoring all 2018-2019 graduates from August, October, and December 2018 and March and May 2019 will be held Thursday, May 30th, 2019 at Polsky Hall at Johnson County Community College.

Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. and will last approximately 90 minutes. A reception will follow in the lobby.

Commencement Timeline

Arriving

Graduates should arrive at the check-in station by 5:30 p.m. The check-in station will open at 4:30 p.m.  Attendees should allow plenty of time (10-15 minutes) to park and walk to Polsky Hall.  Guests of the graduates may take their seats in the main theater upon arrival.

Processional

The procession of graduates will begin promptly at 6 p.m.  The graduates will process in with their individual school or college.  Guests of the graduates should be seated by 5:55 p.m. as the aisles must be clear for the Academic Procession.  Guests will be asked to wait to enter during the procession.

Recessional

At the conclusion of the ceremony, we ask that guests remain seated while the graduates proceed out to the lobby.

Diplomas

Diplomas for May graduates will be mailed 10–12 weeks after the May graduation date of May 18, 2019.

Tickets

Tickets will not be required for the Commencement ceremony.  We do ask graduates to limit their guests to ten.  If you wish to invite more, contact Liz Cheney at (816) 926-4288 or echeney38@webster.edu for assistance.

For your benefit, we have made arrangements with Grad Images, a professional photographer, to record the moment you walk across the stage.  More information on the service is available at www.gradimages.com.

Steps to Graduation

1. Submit a Petition to Graduate

All students completing all degree requirements in May 2019 must fill out a Petition to Graduate.

Petitions are DUE MONDAY, March 4, 2019.

Undergraduate and Graduate Petitions:

Petitions will be routed to the correct staff member once form is completed and submitted. NOTE:  An e-mail confirming receipt of the petition will be sent upon submission.

2. Clear Business Office Accounts

Students who have completed all of their academic requirements to graduate must clear their Student Business Office account balance prior to diploma and transcript release. Credit card payments are subject to a 2.75% convenience fee. Check payments have a holding period of 10 days before release of transcripts. For more information, call the Business Office at 1-800-981-9803.

3. Complete RSVP Card

Complete RSVP card for the Kansas City Campus Commencement Ceremony by Friday, March 8, 2019.

For Extended Campus Graduates
Notify your campus director by February 18, 2019 to submit your name on the Commencement Participation Form if you intend to participate in the St. Louis Commencement ceremony.

4. Purchase Your Cap and Gown

How to Wear Your Academic Regalia [ Video ]

Herff-Jones will be providing academic regalia for the Kansas City commencement ceremony.  Invitations, class rings, and diploma frames are also available.

To place an order go online to Herff Jones.  Enter Webster University in the search field and then select Kansas City.

Order on campus on the following dates:  Monday, March 4th - Wednesday, March 6th, 2019 4:30 P.M. - 6:30 P.M..

Orders received after Wednesday, May 1, 2019 may be subject to a $50.00 late fee, plus $15.95 shipping charge.

5. Share the Map of the Commencement Ceremony

Distribute copies of the map to the commencement ceremony to friends and family with your Commencement announcements. These maps contain all the information you and your guests will need to navigate your way through Commencement day.

Parking will be available in two parking garages near the main entrance to Polsky Hall.

Wheelchair access and seating information is available upon request.

6. Celebrate!

Celebrate the completion of your Webster University degree (and the previous 5 steps) at the 44th Annual Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 30th, 2019.
