Kansas City Commencement

Commencement 2018 Ceremony

The 43rd Annual Commencement honoring all 2017-2018 graduates from August, October, and December 2017 and March and May 2018 will be held Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 at the Carlsen Center at Johnson County Community College.

Ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. and will last approximately 75 minutes. A reception will follow in the lobby.

Commencement Timeline


Graduates should arrive at the check-in station by 1:30 p.m. The check-in station will open at 12:30 p.m.  Attendees should allow plenty of time (10-15 minutes) to park and walk to Carlsen Center.  Guests of the graduates may take their seats in the main theater upon arrival.


The procession of graduates will begin promptly at 2 p.m.  The graduates will process in with their individual school or college.  Guests of the graduates should be seated by 1:55 p.m. as the aisles must be clear for the Academic Procession. Guests will be asked to wait to enter during the procession.


At the conclusion of the ceremony, we ask that guests remain seated while the graduates proceed out to the lobby.


Diplomas will be mailed out 10-12 weeks after the student has completed the last class of their degree.


Tickets will not be required for the Commencement ceremony. We do ask graduates to limit their guests to ten. If you wish to invite more, contact Liz for assistance.

Steps to Graduation

1. Submit a Petition to Graduate

All students completing all degree requirements in May 2018 must fill out a Petition to Graduate.

Petitions are DUE Friday, March 9, 2018. See your advisor for questions. Any student submitting a late petition may not have their name listed in the program.

Undergraduate and Graduate Petitions:

Petitions will be routed to the correct staff member once form is completed and submitted.  NOTE:  An e-mail confirming receipt of the petition will be sent upon submission.

2. Clear Business Office Accounts

Students who have completed all of their academic requirements to graduate must clear their Student Business Office account balance prior to diploma and transcript release. Credit card payments are subject to a 2.75% convenience fee. Check payments have a holding period of 10 days before release of transcripts. For more information, call the Business Office at 1-800-981-9803.

3. Complete RSVP Card

Complete RSVP card for the Kansas City Campus Commencement Ceremony by Friday, March 9, 2018.

For Extended Campus Graduates Wanting to Participate in the St. Louis Commencement Ceremony:  Notify your campus director by Monday, February 12, 2018 to submit your name on the Commencement Participation Form if you intend to participate in the St. Louis Commencement ceremony.

4. Purchase Your Cap and Gown

How to Wear Your Academic Regalia [ Video ]

Herff-Jones will be providing academic regalia for the Kansas City commencement ceremony. Invitations, class rings, and diploma frames are also available.

To place an order go online to Herff Jones. Enter Webster University in the search field and then select Kansas City.


Order on campus on the following dates:  April 16th and 17th, 2018 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M..

Orders received after Tuesday, May 1, 2018 may be subject to a $50.00 late fee, plus $15.95 shipping charge.

5. Share the Map of the Commencement Ceremony

Distribute copies of the map to the commencement ceremony to friends and family with your Commencement announcements. These maps contain all the information you and your guests will need to navigate your way through Commencement day.

Parking will be available in two parking garages near the main entrance to the Carlsen Center.

Wheelchair access and seating information is available upon request.

6. Celebrate!

Celebrate the completion of your Webster University degree (and the previous 5 steps) at the 43rd Annual Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018.
