BA in Education (with certification): Secondary Unified Science
While an Undergraduate student in the Department of Teacher Education, you will develop subject matter knowledge and pedagogical skills through coursework based on current research and effective practice. You have the opportunity to apply your knowledge through diverse and varied field experiences in local schools.
An emphasis in Secondary Education requires 36 required credit hours, 27 general education credit hours, and 65 elective credit hours. This degree is only offered at the St. Louis campus.
You will hone your skills to become an effective teacher of students in seventh through twelfth grades. Courses will explore the sociology and philosophy of education, child development and psychology, science, writing instruction, language arts, and classroom organization and curriculum.
As an Education major, you may pursue traditional education courses and activities, including supervised practica, independent studies, and reading courses, or explore issues in the field of educational philosophy, theory, and methodology through a variety of professional activities.
