Heather PattersonSoprano Heather McKenzie Patterson is one of Saint Louis' respected performing artists and teachers. Since arriving in 2010, she has appeared with a wide range of Saint Louis ensembles, including the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, the Bach Society of Saint Louis, Webster University Symphony Orchestra, The Metropolitan Orchestra of Saint Louis, Christ Church Cathedral Choir and Manchester United Methodist Choirs and Orchestra.

Operatic engagements include Emily in The Ballad of Baby Doe (Winter Opera Saint Louis), Yum-Yum in The Mikado (Saint Louis Beacon), Musetta in La Bohème (Arbor Opera Theater), Frasquita in Carmen (Arbor Opera Theater), and Nella in Gianni Schicchi (Michigan State Opera Theatre). As a 2011 Emerging Artist with Arbor Opera Theater, Ms. Patterson performed scenes in Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna), Der Rosenkavalier (Sophie), Giulio Cesare (Cleopatra), and the title role of Manon.

Ms. Patterson has enjoyed performing works by composers such as Lori Laitman, Juan Orrego-Salas, and the late Lee Hoiby in recital as well as in concert with the chamber orchestra Musique21, conducted by Raphael Jimènez. Ms. Patterson has covered the soprano solos in the Saint Louis Symphony’s performances of Handel’s Messiah as well as performances of Orff’s Carmina Burana, under the baton of Maestro David Robertson. Previous solo engagements include Orff’s Carmina Burana (Webster University); the Fauré Requiem (Manchester United Methodist Choirs and Orchestra), Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem (Webster University Symphony Orchestra; Eastern Michigan University Symphony Orchestra), and Haydn’s "Lord Nelson" Mass (The Metropolitan Orchestra of Saint Louis; Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra).

Ms. Patterson received Bachelor of Arts degrees in music and psychology from Furman University and a Master of Music in vocal performance from Michigan State University, where she studied with soprano Melanie Helton and coached with Marie-France Lefebvre. Ms. Patterson participated in V.O.I.C.Experience: “Sherrill Milnes & Friends,” where she worked with Patricia McCaffrey, Sherrill Milnes, Jorge Parodi and Joachim Schamberger. Ms. Patterson currently studies with Christine Armistead. She has performed in master classes with Sherrill Milnes, Scott Schoonover and Mary Ann Hart and worked extensively with Carol Vaness, Robert Swedberg, Shawn McDonald and George Shirley during her apprenticeship with Arbor Opera Theater.

Ms. Patterson teaches vocal arts to music majors at Webster University. Previously, she served on the music faculties at University of Missouri (Columbia, Mo.), Principia College (Ill.), Haslett High School (Mich.), Grand Ledge High School (Mich.), and Winter Park High School (Fla.). She frequently enjoys leading master classes in high schools and adjudicating various talent competitions. As Owner and Voice Instructor at Saint Louis Vocal Arts Institute, Ms. Patterson is pleased to offer numerous performance and study opportunities for aspiring vocal artists. She regularly presents audition & vocal training workshops and master classes to area music organizations and school districts throughout the Saint Louis region.
