Andrew Vogel

Adjunct Professor of Music History

Andrew VogelAndrew Vogel is a native of St. Louis. He received his Bachelor of Music in Jazz/Music Tech from Webster University, and his Master of Arts in Jazz History and Research from Rutgers University. As a saxophonist, Andrew’s principal teachers were Christopher Braig, Paul DeMarinis, and Mike Karpowicz. As a jazz historian, Andrew studied under Dr. Henry Martin and Dr. Lewis Porter.

Andrew has had the opportunity to teach jazz history and music history classes at Rutgers University and Webster University. He contributed research to J-DISC, the online jazz discography provided by the Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University. Andrew’s research has provided him the opportunity to interview jazz greats including: John Abercrombie, Jimmy Cobb, Fred Hersch, Evan Parker, and Sonny Rollins. His Master’s thesis is titled, Angel Song: The Suite Life and Music of Kenny Wheeler.

Andrew still enjoys playing with jazz and rock groups, as well as teaching private lessons around the St. Louis area.
