"A Gift to the City" Concert- 12/2/12
"A Gift to the City" celebrates the holiday season with seasonal music, presented by ensembles and students from the Webster University Department of Music. Now in its fourth year, "A Gift to the City" is a reflective and peaceful panoply of musical styles and ideas, presented by three Webster University choirs and the student orchestra. This year's performance also includes students providing interludes on harp and on the cathedral's pipe organ. The music ranges from Corelli's Christmas Concerto to A Charlie Brown Christmas, from the ancient text of "O magnum mysterium" to a piece by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
"Producing this concert is one of the delights of the year," says Jeffrey Carter, chair of the Department of Music. "The program is fast-paced, with one choir beginning as the sound of the orchestra fades away, and then a harp interlude setting the stage for the next ensemble to change the mood yet again. We usually have standing-room audiences for this concert, for good reason!"
