Wind Ensemble Presents the Music of England, Australia and France- 3/4/13

The Webster University Wind Ensemble, directed by James A. Martin, will perform a concert of music that ranges from transcriptions of compositions to original pieces written for the wind ensemble.  The concert will begin at 7 p.m., Monday, March 4, in the Community Music School's Concert Hall.

Ralph Vaughan Williams wrote the majestic “Flourish for Wind Band” in 1939. Australian composer Ralph Hultgren's “Moto Perpetuo” (1992) is a study in the musical energies that can be created by the ensemble. The concert will also include Jules Massenet's complete ballet music from the 1885 opera “Le Cid” in a beautiful transcription by Verne Reynolds.

The Community Music School is located at 535 Garden on Webster University's campus. Admission to the concert is $3 for the general public and free for students with valid I.D. For more information, call 314-968-7032, or the Fine Arts Hotline at 968-7128.
