Gorloks Ranked in Top 10

The Gorloks Baseball Team was ranked as a top-10 Division III team this week

Dooley pitchesST. LOUIS, APRIL 17, 2013 -  On the heels of a 6-0 week, the Webster University baseball team has moved up to 10th place in the D3Baseball.com national poll for the week of April 15.  The Gorloks, who are ranked 15th in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) poll, have won 19 of their last 20 games.

Webster is 22-6 overall and sits atop the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings at 14-0.  The Gorloks were ranked 10th in the D3Baseball.com pre-season poll and after a 2-4 start to the season, have climbed to that spot.  The 6-0 week was highlighted by Webster's first nine-inning no-hitter, thrown by Dylan Dean Smith (JR, Edwards County HS, IL) in a 6-0 win over MacMurray College.

The Gorloks entered the 2013 season with much anticipation, being ranked in the pre-season top ten in two national polls after its fifth place finish in the 2012 NCAA III World Series. The Gorloks have not disappointed. In early April, they were ranked at 15th in the national polls. Then the team went on a 13 game winning streak before being stopped by Washington University in an 8-6 match. Since that game, the Gorloks have won their last six.

Webster is hoping its continued success in 2013 will lead to its seventh straight SLIAC title, another trip back to the NCAA III championships and, ultimately, another berth in the College World Series.

The Gorloks have a game at 1:30 p.mm. on April 19 vs. Fontbonne University at GCS Ballpark, then host the Griffins for a doubleheader on April 21 at GCS Ballpark.
