Webster University completes a successful Toys for Tots drive, collecting more than 1,200 toys

ST. LOUIS (DEC. 17, 2014) - Webster University collected more than 1,200 toys during the 2015 Toys for Tots drive from November 15-December 15. The University partnered with local Marine Corps Reserve units who coordinate the donation of gifts to less fortunate children throughout the community.

Toys for Tots collection areas were established in Webster University’s locations in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. More than 75 participated.

“I am impressed with how Webster’s global community came together to support such a worthwhile cause,” said Brig. Gen. Mike Callan, USAF (Ret), Webster University’s associate vice president for Military and Governmental Programs who oversees the Office of Military Affairs. “Webster has a history of serving the community in a variety of ways and as we prepare to begin our Centennial year, it is good to see faculty, staff and students come together to help those who are less fortunate.”

Toys for Tots was established in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks and adopted as by the United States Marine Corps in 1948 as an official program. Over its life span, the program has distributed over 469 million toys to more than 216 million less fortunate children.
