Webster University Receives National Recognition

Webster Works Worldwide Named to President’s Honor Roll for Community Service

ST. LOUIS (JAN. 6, 2015) - Webster University was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in December. The annual list names universities and colleges in the United States that demonstrate a commitment to civic engagement.

Webster University was listed in the Honor Roll with Distinction in the General Community Service category for its Federal Work-Study Community Service Program, global Webster Works Worldwide community service day and the Webster Student Literacy Corps, three programs that send students into the community to work with non-profit and government organizations. The University was previously named to the list in 2006.

“From the time of our founding 100 years ago, Webster has focused on meeting unmet needs," said Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble, president of Webster University. "This recognition by the President of the United States reflects the strong commitment our faculty, staff, and students make to meeting others' needs, here and around the world."

The 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll was released Dec. 12. It includes the names of approximately 600 universities and colleges that have students and staff who regularly work with non-profit and government organizations to improve the community. There are approximately 4,600 degree-granting institutions of higher education in the United States.

“Community service is a great way to augment the lessons that students learn in the classroom,” said Julian Schuster, Webster University’s provost, senior vice president and chief operating officer. “It gives students real-world experiences and connects them deeply with the communities which they serve.”

The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll was launched in 2006 to highlight the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement.
