The 2007 America’s Best Colleges edition of U.S. News & World Report ranked Webster University the 23rd best university in the “Best Universities-Master’s” (by region) category. Webster’s ranking is in the Midwest division. Ranking criteria includes peer assessment, average freshman retention rate, average graduation rate, percent of classes with fewer than 20 students, percent of classes with more than 50 students, student/faculty ratio, percent of faculty who are full time, SAT and ACT scores, acceptance rate, percent of freshmen in the top 25% of their high school graduating class and average alumni giving rate.
The U.S. News & World Report’s “Universities-Master’s” category includes institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs, but few doctoral programs. There are 557 American universities in the “Universities-Master’s” category.
Another section of the publication lists schools with outstanding examples of academic programs that are believed to lead to student success. Higher education experts identified eight types of “distinctive” programs for the section and U.S. News & World Report invited college presidents, chief academic officers and deans of students to nominate up to ten institutions with “stellar examples of each program type.”
Webster University is listed as distinctive in Study Abroad throughout the United States in this special category. Programs at the schools on this list involve substantial academic work for credit-a year, a semester, or an intensive experience equal to a course-and considerable interactive between the student and the local culture. Many American students at Webster University take classes at the University’s overseas campuses in Geneva, Vienna, London, Leiden, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Chengdu (China), Cha-am (Thailand) and Osaka (Japan). The University’s international campuses also draw residential students from all over the world, many of whom come to the United States to take classes at Webster’s home campus in St. Louis.
Founded in 1915, Webster University is a private, nonprofit, international university that offers a strong liberal arts curriculum as well as professional degree programs through five schools and colleges at 105 campuses.
