“Celebration of the Great American Songbook” a Jazz Concert at Webster University
Benefit Concert for the TKT Memorial Jazz Scholarship at Webster University
What/ Who:
“Celebration of the Great American Songbook” a jazz concert presented at Webster University. Performers include vocalists Amanda Carr, Ashley Mason, Peter Ayres, the Webster Jazz Singers directed by Debby Lennon and Webster Jazz Faculty members Steve Schenkel, Paul DeMarinis, Kim Portnoy, Carolbeth True, Willem von Hombracht and Kevin Gianino.
Repertoire will be drawn from the huge legacy of American popular song from the 1930's to the present. Representative composers include Hoagy Carmichael, George Gershwin, Sammy Fain, Tadd Dameron, Burton Lane and Paul Simon.
All proceeds from the concert will benefit a scholarship established in memory of Terry Jackson, Kirk Cappello and Tony Saputo, three former Webster University music students who were members of Reba McEntire’s road band and died in a 1991 airplane crash. The scholarship was established by their family and friends to provide assistance to a music student showing exceptional professional promise.
