"The St. Louis Blues ... and all that Jazz!"
Presented by The Webster University Big Band

What/Who:

Two outstanding Big Bands present a concert featuring fresh approaches to writing for this uniquely American ensemble. In a combined concert by Webster University Big Band - James A. Martin, director and the Genesis Jazz Project - Bob Waggoner, director, selections come from the repertoire of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, Gordon Goodwin and the Big Phat Band, Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass, Frank Mantooth, John LaBarbera and many others.

The concert’s title comes from “The St. Louis Blues” by W.C. Handy.  The Webster University Big Band will perform the Bob Brookmeyer arrangement, written for the Jones/Lewis Orchestra in 1966. This brilliant piece explores unique colors of sound and spiky dissonances while the well-known tune unfolds in a surprising fashion.
