Webster University Named a '2010 Great College to Work For' for Third Consecutive Year

Honor by The Chronicle of Higher Education puts Webster in Elite Company

Webster University is again one of the best colleges to work for, according to a new workplace survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education – the most respected publication serving the academic community. Webster also received top honors in The Chronicle’s first two workplace surveys, in 2008 and 2009.

The results, released in The Chronicle's third annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of more than 42,000 employees at 275 colleges and universities.

In all, only 97 of the 275 institutions achieved "Great College to Work For" recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium and large institutions, with Webster included among the large universities with 10,000 or more students.

Webster won honors in five categories this year, including collaborative governance, professional/career-development programs, work/life balance, supervisor or department chair relationship, and respect and appreciation.

"This is a very satisfying affirmation of Webster, but our real goal is less about recognition and more about continuing to grow as a community that values the needs, strengths and contributions of every individual. In that sense, everyone at Webster helps to make this a great place to work," said Webster University President Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble.

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

With its home campus in St. Louis, Webster University is a worldwide institution committed to delivering high-quality learning experiences that transform students for global citizenship and individual excellence. Founded in 1915, Webster offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through five schools and colleges, and a global network of campuses.
