Student Stars Shine in Concert Combining Jazz and Classical Music



What:
The Community Music School of Webster University’s Jazz Lab Ensemble, under direction of Robert Waggoner, will perform a variety of jazz standards and favorites, including Charlie Parker’s “Billy’s Bounce” and Horace Silver’s “Sister Sadie.” Jazz Lab Ensemble guitarist David Trull’s original composition “School’s Out” will also be premiered. The Community Music School of Webster University’s Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra continues the evening’s performance with a captivating performance of Berliot’s L’Arlesienne Suites. Two Concerto Competition co-winners – violinists Tyler Moore and Jenny Liu – will perform Seitz’s Student Concerto in g minor, No. 3, Op. 13 and the Rondo of DeBeriot’s Concerto No. 9.

Who:
The Jazz Lab Ensemble is comprised of high school age musicians who perform a variety of jazz styles from the 1930s to the present while developing improvisation skills, ensemble interaction and personal musicianship.  The Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra is an auditioned orchestra comprised of 59 students through high school age from across the metropolitan area.
