Looking for an enjoyable evening of intriguing new music?

The Young Composers Competition Concert is a celebration of new music by emerging composers!  The concert premiere of winning compositions from the Community Music School of Webster University’s 2008 Young Composers Competition will feature six original compositions by students across the nation and the St. Louis metropolitan area.  The works will be performed by professional St. Louis area musicians.

    When:
    Friday, May 9, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.

    Where:
Community Music School of Webster University - Concert Hall
    535 Garden Avenue
    Webster Groves, MO  63119

    Admission:
    Free.  Includes reception, immediately following.

The Young Composers Competition, sponsored by Arden and Harry Fisher, recognizes and supports the work of outstanding young composers who have not yet completed their formal education.  Winners were selected in a blind competition in two categories:
Level 1 for students ages 12-16 and Level 2 for students ages 17-21.  Works were submitted from seven states from coast to coast.  (Arden and Harry Fisher’s grandson Cole Perkinson won 1st Place in Level 1 with his composition “Sonatina” this year!)

The evening’s concert, which will be professionally recorded for the winners, will include a performance of guest composer Dinos Constantinides’ piano work “Suite for a Young Man,” performed by Daniel Schene of the Webster University Music Department. Dr. Constantinides, Louisiana State University Boyd Professor of Music and Music Director of the Louisiana Sinfonietta, has reviewed the winning works and will meet individually with the winners to discuss composing and provide feedback on their own compositions.

A reception will follow, where audience members can meet the students and guest composer.
