    Former New York Times columnist A.D. Coleman to Speak at Webster University, March 19


    Noted photographer writer and critic A.D. Coleman will speak at Webster University, Friday, March 19, at 1 p.m. in Sverdrup Building Room 101, 8300 Big Bend Blvd. A reception will follow from 5-7 p.m. in Webster's May Gallery where the "China: Insights" show that Coleman has co-curated is currently on display. The speaking engagement, reception and exhibit are all free of charge and open to the public.

    Formerly a columnist for the Village Voice, the New York Times, and the New York Observer, Coleman contributes to ARTnews, Art On Paper, and Technology Review, and publishes columns in Photo Metro and Photography in New York.

    "China:Insights" presents new documentary photography by seven photographers from the People's Republic. Their subjects range from life in a Catholic village and a rural matrilineal culture, to prostitution, gender identity, and a vibrant nightclub scene in the city. The projects and photographers are Faith of a Village: Yang Yankang, Mother to Daughter: Hua Er, Country to City: Zhang Xinmin, Young Pros, Oldest Profession: Chen Yuan Zhong, Bending Gender: Jia Yu Chuan, Urban Identities: Li Nan, Night Moves: Yu Haibo.
