Tom Byrne & Friends: A Faculty Jazz Concert at Webster University
What/Who:
Tom Byrne & Friends present a faculty jazz concert featuring the original compositions of Tom Byrne. Performers include: Tom Byrne, guitar; Paul Demarinis, saxophones; Kim Portnoy, piano; Nick Jost, bass and Philip Graves, drums.
Tom Byrne has performed professionally in the St. Louis area for over twenty years leading his own ensembles as well as accompanying numerous local jazz artists including Willie Akins, Paul DeMarinis, Kim Portnoy, Tom Kennedy, Reggie Thomas and Ptah Williams. He has also performed in many productions at and with the following organizations: the MUNY, the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, the Sheldon Concert Hall and Webster University. Mr. Byrne’s most recent CD is "Beyond Tomorrow," a trio recording of mostly original material. His work can also be heard on Kim Portnoy's Jazz Orchestra CD "Wash Away the Dust of Everyday Life," Mardra and Reggie Thomas's CD "Fade to Blue" and two "Jazz Spoken Here" CDs, which feature Webster University jazz faculty members. Bryne is an adjunct professor of Jazz Studies at Webster University teaching guitar, jazz theory, improvisation and ensembles.
