Terms to Know
WorldClassRoom - This is the name that Webster University uses for the dynamic environment that leads the way to learning online. It is sometimes used interchangeably with the name Blackboard.
Blackboard Vista - Vista is the version of Blackboard that we are currently using at Webster University. Blackboard is a course delivery system that provides premier content management and community engagement to thousands of students who wish to engage in online learning.
Browser - A browser is a software program that allows you to use the Internet for learning and searching.The most common browsers are Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.
The Quick Start Guide is designed to give you quick and easy access to all the information you need to know to be successful as you learn with WorldClassRoom online. WorldClassRoom (WCR), which is Webster's brand name for the Blackboard learning system, offers interactive features which are designed to enhance your learning experience.
You will have access to your course materials 24/7 using your own computer and the Internet. We recommend that you review the entire guide before beginning your online experience at Webster University.
The menu on the left is divided into categories based on function.
Technical Set-Up is the place to start to ensure that your computer is ready for you to fully participate in all of your online course activities. Here you will find information about hardware, software and browser recommendations.
The Tutorials section will give you all the information for actually participating in an online class. There are downloadable reference guides for all of the tools that you can print for future reference.
- We suggest you start with the Navigation page to discover just how easy it is to get around WCR! The Navigation tutorial will show you how to access your individual classes and what to expect once you have entered your classes.
- Take a look at the Communications page next to learn more about connecting with others in your class. Throughout your course, you will be actively engaged with your instructor as well as your peers through the use of features such as Threaded Discusssion, Blogs, and Mail. The exchange of ideas will be an integral part of your online learning process and the tutorials within the Communications section will guide you through the use of these features.
- The Assessments page will provide the instructions you need to successfully submit assignments and assessments to your online instructor. It is almost as easy as walking up to the instructor's desk and handing it in! Viewing your grades is also included in the tutorials in this section.Check out these tutorials to see exactly what the process will be when you take a quiz or submit an assignment.
