

COAP 2000: XHTML Programming
Course Description
HTML is the programming language used to develop home pages on the internet. This course covers the most current techniques available for developing HTML documents and posting pages on the World Wide Web. This requisite course can be taken concurrently with COAP 2120.
Course Objectives
- Learn the syntax required to code a web page in HTML.
- Become familiar with basic style suitable for the web.
- Learn the basics of PaintShop Pro, as required to create transparent images for the web.
- Learn to create animated GIFs.
- Learn to use an image map tool for creation of hotspots and web image maps.
- Become familiar with basic techniques, such as the creation of lists, tables, frames.
- Learn syntax required for placing multimedia objects and images on a web page.
- Learn to use tables for positioning components on a web page.
- Provide guidance for developing a Web homepage and project.
Prerequisites
Reasonable level of computer literacy. You should be able send email with attachments and do routine things such as using word processing, creating a new folder, copying files, and using explorer on your computer.

Course activities will be outlined in detail when you log in to your course. Your course will appear in WebCT on the login date. Login will be available at 6 p.m. on the Friday before courses start.
Attendance
Since this course is Internet based, students will not be expected to come to the main campus. Students are expected, however, to perform all work on a weekly basis, and meet submission deadlines. All coursework must be completed and submitted by the date/time specified in the forum assignments (operating on Central Standard Time) to avoid late penalty. This deadline is typically on the Friday of each school week, unless otherwise specified.
