About President Stroble
Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble was named the 11th President of Webster University in 2009. During her tenure, Webster University, a global institution with a network of campus locations around the world based in Webster Groves, has solidified its reputation as a truly global university. The University expanded into Africa and Greece and built partnerships with communities and institutions around the world. Dr. Stroble has focused attention locally as well, with the opening of the Gateway Campus in the Arcade Building in downtown St. Louis and breaking ground for a new Interdisciplinary Science Building on its Webster Groves campus, which will open in 2017.
Understanding that financial leadership and stability is critically important, under Dr. Stroble’s leadership, the University has more than doubled its endowment, significantly increased scholarship funding for students and established the University’s first four endowed faculty positions, as well as improving the institution’s bond ratings and increasing net assets by $100 million. The University celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015 and significantly became a four-time national Chess champions. Strengthening Webster’s academic profile and global outreach has attracted significant support from corporations, foundations, and government sources.
Dr. Stroble serves on numerous national and local boards of educational and advocacy organizations, as well as other non-profits, including the National Association of Independent Colleges & Universities, Mercy Hospital St. Louis, the St. Louis Regional Chamber, Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Opera Theatre St. Louis, the Repertory Theatre, Variety the Children's Charity of St. Louis, and The Municipal Theatre Association (MUNY) of St. Louis. As a member of the Council of Independent Colleges Project for the Future of Independent Higher Education, Dr. Stroble will host their forum in St. Louis in 2017.

She has participated in national roundtable discussions on social media and its use by higher education leaders and was featured in the book “#Follow the Leader – Lessons in Social Media Success from #HigherEdCEOs.” She also can be found on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIN, and Tumblr. Dr. Stroble earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and English from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and two master of arts degrees, one in history and one in American and English literature, both from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. She received her doctorate in curriculum studies from the University of Virginia. Her career includes academic and administrative appointments at the University of Akron, the University of Louisville, and Northern Arizona University.
She shares a home with her husband and two cats. When she isn’t working on the home campus or traveling to one of Webster’s many domestic and international locations, she enjoys spending time working in her yard and walking in Webster Groves. Their daughter is currently studying Japanese language and culture at Obirin University in Tokyo. Skyping with her is a special weekend treat.
