Office of the Provost
Dr. Julian Z. Schuster is Webster University's Provost & Senior Vice President. Dr. Schuster, who joined Webster University July 2010, works with President Elizabeth (Beth) Stroble to develop and implement strategic priorities in alignment with the university's mission, vision and values in support of one goal: academic and operational excellence.
In his first year at Webster, Dr. Schuster collaborated with faculty to adopt the Global Citizenship Program, a new general education program and a major component of Webster's initiative to set a distinct standard for global education.
Currently, Dr. Schuster heads the University's master planning process and co-chairs, with President Stroble, the University Planning and Budget Committee. He is leading the development of new international initiatives in China, Russia, Ukraine and other locations.Dr. Schuster is a Director of the World Affairs Council of St. Louis, a member of the Faust Park Foundation Board of Directors, St. Louis County, and a member the Board of Directors of St. Louis' Contemporary Art Museum.
Prior to joining Webster, Dr. Schuster was the founding Dean of the Hamline University School of Business in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he oversaw the development of innovative new business degrees and established international partnerships, study-abroad opportunities, and fellowships for students and faculty. From 1996 to 2006, Dr. Schuster served in several capacities at the University of New Haven, Connecticut, including Dean of the School of Business. He earned a BA in economics, an MA in international economics, and a PhD in economics, all from the University of Belgrade.
Dr. Schuster collaborates with senior administrators in overseeing academic endeavors and in managing the internal administrative operations of the university.
Webster University's five schools and colleges offer many undergraduate, graduate and professional programs— from Global Journalism to Stage Management, Forensic Accounting to Teaching English as a Second Language, and Cultural Anthropology to International Human Rights. Webster is also home to the Emerson Library, which provides a wealth of information and services to the Webster community worldwide.
The Office of the Provost oversees administrative units that support the academic endeavors of the University. Those units include Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, Finance & Administration, and Information Technology.
Councils and Committees
Two leadership teams serve the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President: the Deans' Council and the Provost's Council. In addition, the Provost works with a number of faculty committees to carry out the academic mission of the university and with a number of committees and task forces comprising faculty, staff, and students to improve operations, propel new initiatives, and administer the university's programs.
