Joel Mort received his Ph.D. in Comparative Religion from Western Michigan University under E. Thomas Lawson with the Cognitive Science of Religion, Philosophy of Science, African Religion, and Christianity as his emphases. He is now a Research Scientist in the Cognitive Systems Branch of the Air Force Research Laboratory and a Research Scholar at the Culture and Cognition Lab at Wright State University’s Department of Psychology. His current work focuses on evolutionarily bequeathed cognitive mechanisms that can account for cultural variation in human behavior in general and religious behavior in particular.
