Frequently Asked Questions

Enrollment/Registration

When may I register for the next term’s courses?
Registration typically begins 6 weeks prior to the start of the term.

Do I have to enroll in course work every term?
No, Webster University’s open enrollment allows students to take off as many terms as needed. However, if you sit out for six or more consecutive terms, you will be required to meet any new program degree requirements stated in the catalog that is current when you resume classes.

Can I take more than one course per term?
Yes, but if you have been out of school for a while, we strongly recommend that you start with one course per term, then increase your schedule to two courses per term. If you wish to take three courses per term, you must meet with an Academic Advisor and complete the necessary paperwork requesting permission.

Can I take courses via directed ("independent") study under the supervision of a Webster faculty member?
Yes, but only under special circumstances and with prior written permission. Normally, degree seeking students are limited to six semester credit hours (the equivalent of two courses) of directed study. Non-degree seeking student may not complete any course work via directed study.

Do I have to commit to attending classes on the same night(s) every week in pursuit of my degree?
No, course meeting days cannot be projected more than one or two terms in advance and the meeting days for specific courses will vary from term to term. This is due to a variety of factors, not the least of which is that Webster selects the best faculty member for each course and their availability will often vary from term to term.

Do I have to join a Study Group when I register for Webster University course work?
No, Webster does not require any student to join a Study Group. However, depending upon course content and the faculty member’s approach to the subject matter, you may have group projects in one or more of your courses.

Must I take courses at any one particular location?
No, as part of a worldwide network of campuses, you may take courses which are relevant to your degree program almost anywhere they are offered in the Webster system, including the international campuses.
