STUDENT PROFILE
By Emily Kothe, senior English and International Human Rights major
Ian Lubar
Petaluma, California
Jazz Guitar Performance Major

Staying Connected: Any advice for parents?
Ian Lubar: Watch your kids’ money and give your kids some space, but still be part of their lives. Just don’t be too overbearing.

SC: Any advice for freshmen?
IL: your money! Don’t procrastinate.

SC: What has been your best on campus experience?
IL: Being able to meet so many new people. I’ve really enjoyed being in the Residential Housing Association (RHA).

SC: What has been your worst on campus experience?
IL: Probably staying up all night to write a paper and do a lot of homework, twice.

SC: Is your current workload with classes more or less than you thought it would be?
IL: It’s probably just about as much as I thought it would be.

SC: What do your weekends usually consist of doing?
IL: Sleeping in, homework and practicing guitar, and hanging out with friends, and playing guitar.

SC: What do you miss most about high school and/or living at home?
IL: There’s less work in high school. But nothing else besides that. I miss home cooked meals and I miss my parents a little bit.

SC: Do you have an on campus job? If so, where/how many hours a week?
IL: I didn’t this semester because I felt like I wanted to get used to what Webster is like, but I probably will next semester.

SC: Favorite aspects of on campus life?
IL: Probably the dorm life and just having so many friends that are right next door. I like that there seems to always be something going on on-campus.

SC: What’s on your desk right now?
IL: My laptop, a box of tissues, airborne, a giant pile of music papers, Superman, a mini plastic sheep, an alarm clock, gloves, books, and that’s it I think.

Mariana Mejia
Veracruz, Mexico
Audio Production Major

Staying Connected: Any advice for freshmen?
Mariana Mejia: Trust your kids; it is tough not having us home, but they’re doing their best to get the best out of this experience. Don’t worry too much.

SC: Any advice for freshmen?
MM: Be prepared to change and be open to the changes that are going to happen. It’s definitely not high school anymore.

SC: What has been your best on campus experience?
MM: Living on the first floor of West Hall. The people that I share the floor with—I just enjoy spending time with them and have lots of fun just hanging out. It’s a good environment, and that affects how your overall experience will turn out.

SC: What has been your worst on campus experience?
MM: That I waited too long to audition for the orchestra so I won’t get to do it this semester.

SC: Is your current workload with classes more or less than you thought it would be?
MM: Less. Right now it just seems that I have more time to relax. I wasn’t sure that I wanted more credit hours, but now that I see the time I have, I’m going to add more credit hours next semester.

SC: What do your weekends usually consist of doing?
MM: It depends. Maybe going out to dinner, or going shopping. Sometimes, it’s watching movies, sleeping, doing homework.

SC: What do you miss most about high school and/or living at home?
MM: I miss the people I knew in high school, and being in an environment that I knew well. I miss the food from home and my family obviously.

SC: Do you have an on campus job? If so, where/how many hours a week?
MM: Nope.

SC: Favorite aspects of on campus life?
MM: What I like most about Webster is the diversity of the staff and students. You can find anyone from anywhere, and any background. And even though your interests might be different, you’re drawn together by the fact that you’re all here. I also like that there’s always something to do. There are lots of on-campus activities to participate in.

SC: What’s on your desk right now?
MM: My computer, my two planners, a paper organizer, a little shelf, and some colored paper.
