STUDENT PROFILE
By Emily Kothe, senior English and International Human Rights majors
Andrew Wong
Alton, IL
Film Production Major

Staying Connected: Any advice for parents?
Andrew Wong: Always be there for your kids when they need to talk but also remember that sometimes you need to let them go; Webster does a very good job of making everybody feel like family.

SC: Any advice for freshmen?
AW: Take school seriously but also have fun. It does take time to get used to dorm life, and you might hate it at first, but once you get used to it it’s really fun.

SC: What has been your best on campus experience?
AW: I got to help out on a Film 2 production that was filmed in Blackburn Park. At first I was just helping move the lights and set up, but then I got to operate the boom mike fore the second half of the day, which was an experience I’d never had before.

SC: What has been your worst on campus experience?
AW: Trying to go to bed early in the dorms but the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything that people are saying. You always have people running around and moving furniture.

SC: Is your current workload with classes more or less than you thought it would be?
AW: I would say it’s what I expected work-wise, but there’s a lot more writing of papers involved.

SC: What do your weekends usually consist of doing?
AW: Going out to eat with friends and watching movies in the dorms and laundry.

SC: What do you miss most about high school and/or living at home?
AW: I miss the quietness and routine of living at home, knowing where everything is, and having a kitchen.

SC: Do you have an on campus job? If so, where/how many hours a week?
AW: No I don’t, but I’m thinking about working at the library. I’m not sure yet.

SC: Favorite aspects of on campus life?
AW: I like the people, they’re really nice and open, and I like how Webster always has something going on the weekends to get kids involved, like the RHA events.

SC: What’s on your desk right now?
AW: My computer, my external hard drive, lots and lots of books, my iPod player, a lamp, and a lot of odd and end papers, and a water bottle. I always have a water bottle.

Education and Spanish Majors

Staying Connected: Any advice for freshmen?
Emily Bahr: Take an interest in your student’s life—academics and what’s going on with them.

SC: Any advice for freshmen?
EB: Get involved, especially in things that you like to do. Be open to the upper classman and faculty that are here and wanting to help you succeed.

SC: What has been your best on campus experience?
EB: I like the time I get to spend with my classmates and with some of the upperclassmen; we get to each lunch together sometimes. There are also a lot of events we can go to.

SC: What has been your worst on campus experience?
EB: Being kept awake at night by too much noise in the residence halls.

SC: Is your current workload with classes more or less than you thought it would be?
EB: For a while it was about what I expected it to be, but recently it’s gotten a little busier. For the most part it’s not too bad.

SC: What do your weekends usually consist of doing?
EB: I’m usually here on campus Friday and Saturday. I do homework for a while and spend time with my friends that are still around. On Sundays I go home to go to church with my family and spend part of the day with them.

SC: What do you miss most about high school and/or living at home?
EB: At high school, I mostly miss my teachers because I had quite a few good role models, but to be fair I’m also finding that here too. I don’t live too far from home so it’s hard to answer that question; I get to see my family quite a bit.

SC: Do you have an on campus job? If so, where/how many hours a week?
EB: Yes, as a desk assistant. I’ll probably work no more than ten hours a week.

SC: Favorite aspects of on campus life?
EB: Being close to where everything is happening; I think if I lived at home I wouldn’t go to as many activities or be as involved as I am now and I wouldn’t have gotten to know as many students.

SC: What’s on your desk right now?
EB: There’s a computer, a printer, a very full shelf of books, pictures of my friends from high school, a paper that’s due in psychology class, I think there’s a couple Webster water bottles that I was given. And then just school supplies. I think that’s it.
