Staying Connected: Any advice for parents?
Manuela Merchan: My advice for them is to have good communication with their kids.

SC: Any advice for freshmen?
MM: Act responsible from the first day you’re here. It can get harder as you go, but if you’re responsible from the first day, it will be easier about the whole process. And tell your parents about yourself!

SC: What has been your best on campus experience?
MM: My first day of snow. It was amazing, I had never ever seen it snow before and I went with my friends to see the snow. Also the changing of seasons; I can relate that to my life, as seasons have changed, I’m changing too.

SC: What has been your worst on campus experience?
MM: Living with someone who was very different than me, it was pretty hard being outside of my house and not living with someone who had the same interests that I did. We get along, but it’s hard to live with.

SC: Is your current workload with classes more or less than you thought it would be?
MM: I think I have what I expected. It’s been a change from the first semester to the second one, but I expected that too.

SC: What do your weekends usually consist of doing?
MM: Usually watching movies, getting homework done, going out with my friends for eating, or hanging out in the dorms, and working.

SC: What do you miss most about high school and/or living at home?
MM: About high school- my friends. They were friends I’d been with for 13 years. I miss my family—too much. They’re very important in my life.

SC: Do you have an on campus job? If so, where/how many hours a week?
MM: Yeah, I work as a Desk Attendant and as a Phonathon caller for the Alumni House. I work around 18 hours a week.

SC: Favorite aspects of on campus life?
MM: I think that living on campus makes you feel like you’re an actual component of Webster, you participate more fully in Webster as a whole.

SC: What’s on your desk right now?
MM: My journal and pictures—a lot of pictures. Oh, and my computer of course! It’s my only source to my country.

Staying Connected: Any advice for freshmen?
Keith Holmes: Be prepared, know your financial stuff, take care of your books—get them early.

SC: Any advice for freshmen?
KH: Stay focused early in the school year, don’t fool around just because you’re in college. Stay on top of your school work. Try to meet upperclassmen.

SC: What has been your best on campus experience?
KH: I checked out First Fridays—the open mic night on campus—it was pretty cool. And just meeting people around campus and around the dorms.

SC: What has been your worst on campus experience?
KH: Having to do a research paper—that’s terrible. And getting parking tickets! People should be able to park anywhere they want.

SC: Is your current workload with classes more or less than you thought it would be?
KH: It’s less, but for one of my classes, it’s more. Overall it’s less though.

SC: What do your weekends usually consist of doing?
KH: Work and whatever is left of homework.

SC: What do you miss most about high school and/or living at home?
KH: Nothing about high school. I still see my friends so I don’t miss them.

SC: Do you have an on campus job? If so, where/how many hours a week?
KH: Nope, but I work at Wal-Mart.

SC: Favorite aspects of on campus life?
KH: The freedom to do what I want to do; Webster’s co-ed dorms. The Audio Production program.

SC: What’s on your desk right now?
KH: My computer, my keyboard, a notebook, my cologne, my printer, my piano keyboard, and I think that’s it.
