Welcome to the eighth issue of the 2008-09 academic year for Staying Connected, a newsletter for parents of first-year students.
Registration for Fall
First-year students can begin registering for Fall Semester classes on April 8. All undergraduate registration requires advisor approval. Students must make appointments to
discuss their schedule with their advisor well in advance of this very busy time period. All outstanding judicial and financial issues must also be resolved prior to
registration.
Student Leaders
I am happy to announce that we have hired a number of students from this year’s class of first-year students to serve as Resident Assistants (RAs) next year. This list includes:
- Sam Hargrove, from Warrenton, Missouri
- Andrew Wong, from Alton, Illinois
- Patty Senft, from St. Peters, Missouri
- Laura Eschbacher, from Sullivan, Missouri
- Jenni Taylor, from Evergreen Park, Illinois
- Wisnu Sugiarto, from Indonesia
These sophomores-to-be will join 15 upperclassmen on our residential staff.
We are in the process of hiring student orientation leaders for Fall 2009. We had 44 applicants for these coveted leadership positions. Eight
members of this year’s freshmen class have been offered positions, including:
- Emily Bahr
- Fletcher Bohne
- Cydnie Deed
- Aubrey Gohl
- Krista Keirnan
- Audrey Rae McHale
- Shante Phillips
- Amelia Sherinski
It is great to see our first-year students getting involved in campus life.
Sorority
As you may have heard, Webster’s Student Government Association (SGA) voted to recognize a campus chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon. A group of young women, many of them from the
freshman class, are attempting to start a sorority chapter at Webster for the first time in our history. This proposal generated a great deal of conversation around campus. I
was very impressed with the group’s proposal and with the thorough process by the SGA leaders deliberated on this issue. Our director of student activities has researched this
sorority (DPhiE) and feels that it is the right group for Webster. The sorority will be held to high standards to ensure that we avoid the negative stereotypes attached to
Greek systems at other universities. The next step for the fledgling chapter is colonization, a ten-week trial period before the group can be recognized as a chapter by the
national Delta Phi Epsilon organization.

We hope to have another newsletter out to you in April. Please send us your suggestions for future articles.
Go Gorloks!
Sincerely,
