Fall/Winter Finds Gorloks Competitive…and Award-Winning
Niel DeVasto
Sports Information Director

NCAAVB

The fall found the Gorlok team sports hitting the trifecta, the women’s volleyball and soccer, and men’s soccer; all won the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) post-season tournaments. This was a first in the SLIAC history. All three teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament with their respective wins. What made the event even sweeter was the teams accomplished the feat on the same day. The women’s volleyball won the SLIAC regular season title with a perfect 16-0 record, while the soccer teams both finished in second place with 7-1 records.

As the air turned cold, Webster University basketball began to heat up. The men’s and women’s teams are in the thick of the SLIAC races. The women have sprinted to a 7-1 record in the SLIAC, and currently sit in first place. They have already surpassed their total number of wins in the SLIAC last season and are 11-5 overall. The men find themselves in third place, at 5-3. They are challenging for first and look to improve on last year’s 3rd place finish.

SLIAC Champs

Multiple teams have received academic accolades. The men’s and women’s soccer teams were recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America with Team Academic awards. Webster was one of only 97 colleges nationwide, at all levels, that had both squads honored. The women’s soccer team had the 19th highest grade point average (GPA) in the nation (3.51). The women’s softball team was recognized as a “Girls Got Game” All-Academic Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The softball team was ranked 11th nationally in the NCAA Division III with a 3.38 team GPA. Eight individuals were recognized for having 3.5 or higher GPAs.
