Staying Connected: Any advice for freshmen?
Myra Smith: Help your child to budget their money. Teach them that there is a balance with school, work, and play.

SC: Any advice for freshmen?
MS: Step outside of the box, do something spontaneous whether it's starting a conversation with a complete stranger or joining a club. Life is all about networking and sometimes you might find a new friend in the process.

SC: What has been your best on campus experience?
MS: My best experience was putting together a successful winter formal. The idea was original amongst my friends and I. I really like how I was able to step on campus and do something without staff and students discriminating against me because I’m a freshman.

SC: What has been your worst on campus experience?
MS: My worst experience on campus is sometimes not having my own space in the dorm rooms. However, I find quiet spots around campus to give me some time by myself. This is very helpful for everyone to do.

SC: Is your current workload with classes more or less than you thought it would be?
MS: My work load is not as heavy as I thought it would be. The only time when I oppose this statement is when I wait to the last minute to do all three homework assignments the one night before they are due, but that is failure on my part to plan ahead.

SC: What do your weekends usually consist of doing?
MS: My weekends are usually free with the exception of occasional homework. I mostly do homework throughout the week to avoid congestion over the weekend.

SC: What do you miss most about high school and/or living at home?
MS: High school! What high school? I wish I would have skipped high school and came straight to college. I do miss the dances though.

SC: Do you have an on campus job? If so, where/how many hours a week?
MS: My campus job is working in the Academic Resource Center (ARC). I work ten hours a week. I direct and assist people with their educational needs.

SC: Favorite aspects of on campus life?
MS: : I love how the campus tries to get students involved with campus activities such as free movie screenings, bowling, dances, etc. Staff does not forget that we want to have fun as well as study.

SC: What’s on your desk right now?
MS: Wait, I’d have to find it first! There is a computer, papers, calendars, Oreos, and lots and lots of pictures of my high school friends, family, and new college friends.
