Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization, which welcomes all people to join to build simple, decent, affordable, houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter. Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 150,000 houses in more than 89 countries, including some 50,000 houses across the United States.
The Habitat for Humanity organization at Webster University began during the spring of 2002. Although the organization is still in the process of being recognized by an official charter, WU Habitat for Humanity is highly involved with many community projects throughout the area. Students at Webster are dedicated in helping with Habitat for Humanity service projects and find that this community service experience is helpful in gaining insight about people and in developing skills necessary for team interaction. The WU Habitat for Humanity won the Outstanding Contributions to Community Service at the 2002 Student Leadership Awards Ceremony.
