Bank Of America: Understanding Credit

This project will consist of a presentation by a personal banker representing Bank of America. The presentation will discuss the importance of obtaining and maintaining good credit. Examples will be provided to demonstrate things that one can do to establish good credit, and also events that can hurt your credit. The goal is to provide students with a basic understanding of why credit is important and how to maintain it. This project would fall under the financial literacy portion of the SIFE criteria.

Possible Dates:   Monday, November 7, 2005 or Wednesday, November 9, 2005 (depending on room availability)
Times: 11:30am-1:30pm
Need Volunteers to:

  • Approach professors about providing extra credit to students who attend the presentation
  • Distribute and hang flyers around campus the week prior to the presentation
  • Contact career services to see if they would be interested in promoting the presentation
  • Contact Journal to see if they will announce and/or cover the invent.
  • Go to classes and encourage students to attend.

BOO AT THE ZOO

Time: 9:00 to 13:00
Event will be hold at the St.Louis Zoo. Target audience is children under 12. Fliers contain an ethical dilemma lesson will be given out at the event.

Webster Works Worldwide -- October 12
"...Annually, Webster University sponsors a campus-wide community service day in partnership with local agencies and nonprofit organizations. Students, faculty, staff and alumni work in teams to accomplish tasks that agencies often neglect due to lack of time and resources. Projects include light construction work, tutoring, painting, yard-working with children or seniors, park and forest restoration, consulting, and fine arts projects..."

Tailoring Smiles
To help low-income mothers sustain their families with their own businesses. Webster SIFE team traveled to Quito-Equado, to help these talented women set up their own store. Mass media involved: Online and Paper, "The Journal-Webster University". The help of the team ranged from:

  • Constructing a marketing plan.
  • Assisting with receiving a government grant which provided them with a free of cost storefront.
  • Sales training and the decoration of their new store.
  • Placing their fisrt large vase order to be sold in our annual SIFE sales.

CREDIFE
To provide below-market interest loans to rural workers and low-income families to start their own business in Quito, Ecuador (South America).

  • Partnered with National Chamber of Micro Enterprises
  • Two day seminars and 8 professional speakers
  • 3 Ecuadorian Newspapers published the story

Adventures in entrepreneurship / co-sponsorship St. Louis Public School System
To educate eighth-grade students about the marketing, entrepreneurship, ethical and financial skills needed in running any type of business. Students developed: Missions Statements, Budget, Marketing campaign , logo and slogan, and dealt with ethical dilemmas. Also, students had the opportunity to visited a small business company.

Seminars
The seminars were targeted not only to out Webster friends but to our community in general.

  • "Leadership ought to be easy" local civic leader Jerry Daniels and our co-sponsorship of David Kemper, Chairman of Commerce Bank, spoke with our Webster friends and emphasized the importance of having an excellent customer relationship and the importance of leadership skills needed to successfully compete.
  • "Anheuser Bush: Behind Super Bowl Commercials" The Super Bowl seminar discussed the marketing techniques and strategies Anheuser Busch uses in order to stay competitive in the beverage industry. For example, Busch has been emphasizing its advertisements of Michelob Ultra towards women in order to expand their target audience to be more favorable towards females. † Moreover, Tim Murphy discussed the social responsibility involved in deciding the Super Bowl commercials and broke through a lot of pre-conceived notions about the beer industry. Students had a great time watching the yet-to-be aired Super Bowl commercials while learning about the secrets of the marketing industry.
