Student Testimonials - Vienna, Austria

"I was inspired to go abroad because of my interest in diversity and cultural immersion of a European country. My absolute favorite part about Austria was the architecture and easy access to other countries since it was a central location. I enjoyed going to the coffee shops, traveling to other surrounding countries, train rides, and mountain towns in Austria. The people there made the experience unique. Being around students from other Webster university campuses that were given the opportunity to study abroad, as well as students from different colleges in the USA was a special part of studying abroad.”

"I was inspired to go abroad because it was the unique ability to live in Europe for an extended period of time without uprooting my entire life. Also for new experiences and self growth. My favorite part of Vienna was the culture and the quality of life there. The fact that I did two semesters was unique and meeting so many new people from other countries and across the US. In my free time I loved exploring the city I was in and taking pictures. I also traveled to over 20 countries over my two semesters. While I was there I wish I had been able to take a language class while abroad. Everyone should know before going abroad that things will go wrong (like having taxis go on strike or missing a flight) but there’s a strong support system and you’re fully capable of solving whatever problem comes your way. Studying abroad has made me confident enough to explore and go out on my own in the US as well as having more life experience to relate to my studies."

"My favorite part of Vienna was the beauty of the city and being able to walk everywhere. I loved Fussball, dancing, and taking walks in my spare time. Getting to be a part of a ‘slice of life’ that is living in a new place and going to school was what made my experience unique. Something to consider is this could be your only chance (at least for a long time) to be able to LIVE in another country and really get a feel for living there and not just visiting. Now that I’m home, it makes me feel as if there’s many more possible lives to live and that I should take opportunities such as these when I can. I think it made me open my eyes to more cultures and made me more excited about learning about people living lives very different from my own."

"I was inspired to go abroad because of my interest in traveling. My favorite part about living in Vienna was the safety of the city, the history it contained, and the people residing there. It was an amazing experience. In my free time I enjoyed spending time with friends I made in my host country, either in a coffeehouse, a bar, or on the road to our next travel destination. My experience in Vienna was unique because of the ability to travel on weekends to any destination I chose. I wish I would have traveled more than I did, rather than taking some weekends off. What’s important to know is don't be afraid to go outside your comfort zone. Some of the best experiences will result from stepping beyond your boundaries. Now I have more confidence, tranquility, and overall happiness in my life at home. Studying abroad taught me invaluable things about myself and who I am, and that would never have happened if I had not participated in the study abroad program."

"My senior thesis and passion for travel inspired me to go abroad in Vienna. My favorite part of Vienna is how uniquely beautiful it is. I live abroad now after graduation and I still have yet to encounter a city as unique and rich as Vienna, and a country as beautiful as Austria. My study abroad experience was unique because I made the experience my own. I saved tons of money to be able to live like I wanted... meaning I could travel and not feel restricted. I really took advantage of the traveling aspect, which I would HIGHLY HIGHLY encourage anyone to do. It’s simply amazing to see other cultures. And every single place I went (10 countries), gave me a new perspective and a new experience that I still get so giddy to share any time I can.”

"I was inspired to go abroad because I wanted to know what it was like to go outside of the United States. My favorite part about going to Vienna was finding activities to do inside the city, and I was really able to engulf in the culture of Vienna. My favorite things to do were going to the opera or taking walks through the city. One thing I would have done differently is stayed longer than I did. Now that I’m home, I appreciate more of the things we don’t have in the United States. One thing I would recommend to someone studying abroad is to exchange your money before you leave and take more than you think you need.”

"I chose to study abroad in Vienna because of the culture and its location. Vienna is one of the most centrally located study abroad locations, and its easy access to the train and airport transportation systems put it at the top of my list. I absolutely loved Vienna because it was so close to the locations I wanted to visit, and the people were so friendly. Vienna is beautiful, and its unique culture and busy atmosphere provided constant entertainment and things to do."
