Program Description  
In an era of globalization, companies are expanding to international markets at a rapid pace and thus marketers today must become familiar with factors influencing global advertising communications. It is important for tomorrow's professionals to understand how this rapidly changing global environment influences communication decisions about research, strategy, media, execution, and so on. The global of this course therefore is to introduce and discuss issued that affect communications in a global marketing place. To do so, this course also includes a short-term study abroad trip to Vienna, Austria, where students will get a chance to experience firsthand conducting advertising research in an international setting as well as understanding the complex relationships involved in the process of creating cultural appropriate content, navigating national and global regulatory frameworks and engaging with international audiences.

ADTV 3910 International Advertising- 3 credit hours

The course is designed to introduce students to theories and practices of international advertising, including a unique opportunity to travel to Vienna during Spring break to engage in real-life learning while exploring the different dimensions of the international advertising mix. During the semester, you will learn about developing and executing creative strategies, media planning and buying and advertising research for an specifically national audience. You will engage with a number of case studies of successes and failures in global advertising, while paying particular attention to the importance of creating culturally sensitive and carefully research advertising messages. The course will also require you to research, plan and propose an advertising campaign for a specific product to an international audience, which you will get the opportunity to pitch to and receive feedback from an international group of consumers, during our visit to Vienna. As part of your study aboard visit, you will also get a chance to see first-hand the work of advertising agencies who have international clients as well as hear from several experts who will give guest lectures on the regulations, policies and other cultural considerations when creating content for international advertising.

There are no specific prerequisites for the course.

Program Fee: $1225.00
What's included: 8 nights of accommodations in shared rooms; all organized curricular and co-curricular activities included in the itinerary; breakfast and 2 dinners (a Welcome and Farewell group dinner); and a local transportation pass.

Study Abroad Fee: $175 (covers international insurance & ISIC card)

Spring Break scholarship deadline- November 15th

Application Process  
Application Deadline:  November 15th, 2019

To apply, follow these steps:
1) Ensure you meet the study abroad eligibility requirements
2) Start an application via the Webster online application system
3) The application will ask you to fill out a number of forms, pay the $165 study abroad deposit*, write a brief statement of purpose, submit a passport copy and a passport sized photos. 

*The $165 application deposit is refundable to if ALL of the following conditions are met: 1) Student attends the program 
2) Student completes the pre and post-study abroad surveys 3) Student does not have any outstanding program charges.
