Global Gorlok Photo Contest Guidelines

Photo Contest Entry Form

Deadline for submission

  • Friday, August 2, 2013 at 4:30 p.m (Central Time Zone)
  • Winners announced by August 30, 2013

Rules & Eligibility

  1. Entrants must have participated in a study abroad program during the 2012–2013 academic year (including Summer 2012). This includes current students, as well as students from other universities who participated in a WU program.
  2. Photos must be original work and must have been taken by the entrant during the entrant's study abroad program. (No professional or edited photos will be accepted).
  3. Photos may be color, black and white, or sepia.
  4. Images should have a resolution of 300 dpi or higher.
  5. Photo format accepted is: .jpg.
  6. Entrants may submit a maximum of two (2) photos total (Only one photo per category).
  7. A completed entry form MUST accompany every entry.

Entries must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. (Central), August 2, 2013.


  • Nature: Plants, landscapes, waterscapes, wildlife, panoramic views and outdoor activities
  • Architecture: Buildings, cityscapes, landmarks, monuments, or places of interest
  • Cross-Cultural Moments: Cultural events, interaction with host culture, defining moment, fairs, ceremonies, holiday celebrations, local festivals, or other cultural activities
  • Global Gorlok: Study Abroad student(s) showing Webster pride abroad (banner, logo, Gorlok, etc.) wearing WU attire in a unique international setting or gathering, or participating in Webster activities and/or excursions.



Judging: Photos will be reviewed by a panel consisting of Webster faculty and staff. Judges decisions are final. Winning entries will be selected on the best quality photographs that convey the following:

  • Technical merit (clarity, focus, lighting, etc.).
  • Representation of the Webster University study abroad experience.
  • Sensitivity toward the host culture.
  • Accurate representation of category.


  • The top photos will be displayed in the Small Wall Gallery during the Fall 2013 semester. 
  • One "1st Place" photo will be awarded in each category. Each winner receives a prize and a framed copy of their winning photo.
  • Only one prize per entrant will be awarded.

Submission Requirements and Instructions

Submissions must follow the below instructions in order to be considered.

  • Representation of the Webster University study abroad experience.
  • Sensitivity toward the host culture.
  • Accurate representation of category.
  • Technical merit (clarity, focus, lighting, etc.).

Terms and Conditions

This contest is open to Summer 2012, Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 Webster study abroad student participants. By submitting your photo(s) to the photo contest, you agree to obtain permission from individuals included in your photos, when feasible.

By submitting your photograph(s), you authorize and give full consent to Webster University to copyright, publish, modify, edit, and display all photographs and /or quotes taken in which your image and/or quote appears.

You agree that Webster University may use or cause to be used, your photograph for any and all exhibitions, public display, publications, commercial art, Internet/Web and advertising related to Webster University Student Recruitment and any other university promotional activities without limitation or reservation or any compensation.
