The Webster Sustainability Coalition was formed in the fall of 2007, when President Richard Meyers announced that he wanted Webster to become a greener, more sustainable campus. The speech can be found here.

A committee was soon formed to accomplish this task.  It was headed by Dr. Deborah Dey, Vice President for Enrollment Management and former science professor.  It became known that other smaller groups on campus were already in the process of pursuing sustainability initiatives.

Viewing this as an opportunity to drastically increase and unify the effort to make Webster a greener place, Dr. Dey brought David Stone, Director of Facility Planning; John Ginsburg, Director of Student Activities; Lori Diefenbacher, adjunct faculty member in the School of Education and Coordinator of Experiential Learning; Karla Armbruster, a faculty member  representing the Environmental Studies Committee; and student representative Josh King (later replaced by Brooke Benbenek) together to form the Coalition.

Since its inception, the coalition has sponsored a webcast for Campus Sustainability Day and put together a smoking policy that has made the campus environment cleaner and healthier.  They advised then-President Meyers to sign the President’s Climate Commitment and helped to commission the energy audit and disseminate its results.

More audits are in the works, as is the effort to comply with the President’s Climate Commitment.  Stay current and feel free to browse the site!
