Inquiries and Campus Visits

Current information on Webster University's campuses, academic offerings, and application processes is available at
webster.edu/admissions. In addition, prospective students are encouraged to contact the Admission Office at their intended campus by e-mail, telephone, and/or mail.

The University recommends that prospective students, parents, and sponsors visit campus prior to enrollment. The best time to visit is normally during the academic year when classes are in session. Campus visits should be arranged at least one week in advance with the local Admission Office.

Webster University welcomes applications for admission from students from all countries. Consequently a campus visit may not be a realistic option for some individuals, especially those coming from abroad. In these cases Webster encourages prospective students to initiate personal contact with their Admissions Counselor shortly after they begin the online inquiry and application process.

Undergraduate Application

Freshman & Transfer

The University operates on a rolling admission basis, and application files are reviewed by the Admission Committee as soon as all requested documents have been received. The University recommends a March 1 application completion date for fall semester applicants who wish to meet all scholarship, financial aid, and housing deadlines. Missouri residents must complete all financial aid forms by March 1 for Access Missouri Grant consideration. However all application files must be complete at least one month prior to the intended date of entry. Applicants who apply after the March 1 priority date can only be considered for scholarship or financial aid funds, and housing spaces on an "as available" basis.

IMPORTANT: Students should apply to only one Webster campus. Applicants may contact the Admission Office to request a change in the Webster campus location of an existing application.

Application Documents
Whenever possible, applicants should make photocopies of all application documents submitted to Webster as all official documents and other materials submitted in support of the application become University property and cannot be returned or reproduced.

Application documents should be submitted by mail (or express courier) to the Webster campus the applicant wishes to attend using the campus specific address information noted above.

Freshman Application Documents

 Freshman applicants must submit:

• An online Application for Undergraduate Admission (or paper based Application if needed) or The Common ApplicationT. NOTE: Non-U.S. citizens and U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents living outside the United States should complete the online "Global" International Student Application (or paper based Application if needed).
• A $35 nonrefundable application fee..
• An official transcript from an accredited high school that includes six semesters of completed coursework with grades, class rank, and cumulative G.P.A. All transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
• ACT or SAT Test scores for applicants who attend U.S. high schools or international secondary schools that use English as the language of instruction. (Scores listed on an official high school transcript are acceptable.)
• A 300- to 500-word essay on a topic of the student's choice, for example a special interest, experience, or achievement.
• A resume of school and community activities, including offices held and awards received.
• At least one recommendation from a high school guidance counselor or teacher.
• An audition or portfolio review is required for students applying as a fine and performing arts (art, dance, music, or theatre) or film production major. • Permanent Residents: Submit a copy of the front and back of the resident alien card.
• International applicants who will require a student visa or resident permit for study purposes at any Webster campus must submit a photocopy of the picture page from their passport.
• NOTE: Additional credentials may be requested as needed. One example would be English language proficiency test scores for applicants whose mother tongue is a language other than English. These additional documents may be requested by the Admission Office to complete the application file and/or by the Admission Committee folowing a review of the applicant's file.

Freshmen Class Admission Criteria

Freshman applicants are expected to complete a college preparatory secondary school program with at least 19 units of academic credit. The University strongly recommends the following distribution:

English	4 units
History/social studies	3 units
Mathematics (college preparatory)	3 units
Foreign language	2 units
Science (two laboratory)	3 units
Fine arts	1 unit
Academic electives	3 units

The Admission Committee reviews each application individually in order to evaluate demonstrated academic ability. During this review the University looks for evidence of potential academic success at Webster. During the review, particular emphasis is given to the applicant's grades in academic courses, achievement on standardized tests, and class rank. The essay, the recommendation(s), and school/community achievements are important considerations in the University's decision-making process.

Applicants most likely to be admitted will rank in the top 50 percent of their high school class, have a cumulative grade point average of at least a B, and will have an ACT composite score of 21 or above or a combined SAT score of 1500 or above.

Each applicant to the freshman class is required to submit a final high school transcript, certifying the date of graduation within the first term of enrollment at Webster. The University will evaluate the following Advanced Standing coursework taken in high school for transfer credit at Webster following the submission of all official documentation:

• Advanced Placement (AP) program: official score reports are required
• Concurrent college coursework: official college transcripts are required
• International Baccalaureate: official score results are required
• Advanced standing 13th year certificate programs (Swiss Maturite, French Baccalaureat, German Abitur, U.K Advanced Levels, The Netherlands VWO, Austrian Matura, etc.): official completion certificates are required

Home School Freshman Application

Home schooled applicants are welcomed and should follow the freshman application procedures. Transcripts documenting subjects covered and grades earned, or official General Equivalency Diploma (GED) test score results are required. Official ACT or SAT score results are also required.

Early Enrollment Freshman Application

Some students desire to enter the freshman class before graduation from high school. Such students are typically highly motivated and possess strong academic backgrounds that have prepared them for college-level work. These students may apply for admission for enrollment occurring prior to high school graduation. The candidate must submit a positive recommendation from the high school principal that states the student is in good standing, and is adequately prepared for college-level work in order to be considered.

Freshman Conditional Admission

 The University may choose to admit on a conditional basis a student who has not met the admissions criteria. Students who are accepted under conditional admission may be required to take specific courses during their first semester at the University. Conditional students must successfully complete their first semester with a resident grade point average of at least 2.0 or above in order to remain at the University.

Adult/Transfer Application

 Each adult freshman applicant and each transfer applicant who has previously attended a college/university or other postsecondary institution must submit:

• An online Undergraduate Student Application, The Common Application, or a paper-based Adult/Transfer Application.
• A $35 nonrefundable application fee.
• An official high school transcript listing date of graduation or GED scores if the applicant has successfully completed fewer than 30 semester credit hours (approximately one year) of university level credit.
• Official score reports from any Advanced Standing work completed while enrolled in high school. Please refer to the freshman admission requirements section.
• An official transcript from each college or university and/or other postsecondary institution previously attended. (It is the applicant's responsibility to request and submit all transcripts. Applicants must contact each institution to have an official transcript mailed directly to the Admission Office at Webster University. All official transcripts must be received at Webster in sealed, unopened envelopes. NOTE: Transcripts issued to students or opened prior to submission to Webster will not be accepted as official. All transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
• A resume that details professional employment history (for adult applicants), school and/or community activities, honors, and awards (for transfer applicants); and/or a 300- to 500-word essay on a topic of applicant's choice.
• An audition or portfolio review is required for students applying as fine and performing arts (art, dance, music, or theatre) or film production majors. • B.S.N. students should contact the Nursing Department chair on the St. Louis campus for additional admission credentials, requirements and to schedule the required pre-admission appointment. Students must have their RN license to be considered for admission to this program. Applicants interested in attending the Nursing program in Kansas City should contact that campus.
• Permanent Residents: Submit copy of front and back of the resident alien card.
• International applicants who will require a student visa or resident permit for study purposes at any Webster campus must submit a photocopy of the picture page from their passport. Extended Campus Degree Completion Admission

 Applicants to Webster's upper-division degree completion programs, offered in Kansas City, Missouri; Orlando, Florida; Los Angeles, California; San Diego, California; and South Carolina at: Charleston, Columbia and Greenville must follow application procedures listed under Adult/Transfer Application and must have successfully completed at least 64 credit hours (or 56 credit hours in the state of California) of college-level work prior to beginning studies at the University.

Adult/Transfer Admission Criteria

 When considering an adult/transfer applicant, the University looks for documentation that the student's prior academic preparation will provide an adequate foundation for success in college-level coursework taken at Webster.

The primary method used to assess the applicant's previous preparation is a review of college and/or high school transcripts. Applicants should have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better (on a 4.0 scale) on all previous academic work, both in the major and in the liberal arts and sciences. Students who are on academic probation or suspension at a previous institution are generally ineligible for admission. Specific admission requirements vary by program. Each student will receive individual consideration based on all application documents submitted for review.

Actual requirements for undergraduate degrees vary from institution to institution. Therefore, Webster strongly encourages transfer students to contact the University early in their academic careers to request information about transfer to the University. An informed educational plan at the applicant's current college or university can minimize complications at the point of transfer to Webster. Transfer Conditional Admission

 The University may choose to admit on a conditional basis a transfer student who has not met the admissions criteria. Students who are accepted under conditional admission may be required to take specific courses in their first semester at the University. Provisional Admission

 An accepted student whose application file is incomplete due to an outstanding final transcript or other required document is classified as a provisional admit. This status applies to all transfer students still enrolled in university coursework. Likewise provisional admits may be placed on hold for external examination results or still need to have a document translated into English. Students admitted on a provisional basis must submit all required documents before they register for a subsequent semester.

General Application Information

Admission to Desired Major
The Admissions Committee at Webster University reviews each applicant's background for two areas of competence. The initial review focuses on the student's overall academic performance in all coursework attempted prior to application at Webster. The second review concentrates on the student's previous preparation and ability in the intended major area(s). The decision regarding admission to the University will be based on both areas of review.

However, admission to the University does not guarantee acceptance as a declared major in any specific program. Students normally request formal acceptance into the desired major after a period of satisfactory academic progress at Webster. Requirements for acceptance as a major vary and are set by individual departments and programs.

Certificate Program Application
Students who wish to pursue a Certificate program at Webster must apply and be accepted as degree-seeking.

Deferred Admission
An accepted student may request a deferral of their acceptance for up to one academic year by making a written request to the Admission Office. Students who defer admission must submit official transcripts of any academic work completed after acceptance and prior to enrollment at Webster.

English Language Proficiency
Applicants whose primary language is not English must document their English language proficiency at the time of application. Applicants normally satisfy this requirement by submitting current and official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Academic IELTS scores. The scores required for admission are as follows:

Equivalent Cambridge, Oxford, NEAB, TEEP, Academic IELTS, and London Certificate test results that are current can be considered in lieu of the TOEFL. Students who cannot document current evidence of English proficiency should contact the campus to which they are applying for on-site testing. On site testing is available at the following locations: St. Louis, Geneva, Hua Hin/Cha-am, Leiden, and Vienna. In such cases, testing must be completed before the admission decision will be made. Webster University will refer for testing any applicant for admission about whose English language proficiency an admissions officer has concerns. All English as a Second Language (ESL) recommendations and requirements are a condition of the applicant's admission, enrollment, and/or continued enrollment at the University.

ESL Contingent Admission
Some applicants are acceptable to the University but have additional English language proficiency needs that the University believes can be met by taking English as a Second Language (ESL) courses through Webster University or another educational institution with which the University has an articulation agreement. These students will be accepted on a contingent basis that acknowledges their need to satisfactorily complete further work in English. Students admitted with an ESL contingency must meet the University's English language proficiency requirements as noted above before their contingent admission status can be waived.

English Language Placement Testing Admitted students normally must complete the University's on-campus English language testing prior to registration for classes. The results of this evaluation will enable the academic advisor to place the student in appropriate coursework. Options include intermediate and/or advanced English as a Second Language (ESL) courses only, ESL courses in combination with academic courses, or academic courses only. Webster University will refer for testing any student about whose English language proficiency an academic department, an individual faculty member, or an academic advisor has concerns. The ESL recommendations will become part of the student's graduation requirements.

Full Admission
An accepted student whose formal application file contains all official and final transcripts and, if needed, literal and certified translations is classified as a full accept. No additional documentation is required and the student's admission letter will indicate a "Full" admission.

Housing Information
St. Louis on-campus housing information may be obtained by visiting www.webster.edu/housing. For the fall term, housing applications become available after January 1. Freshmen are required to live on campus unless they live with their parents within 35 miles of campus. Transfer students who wish to live in the Webster Village Apartments or residence halls on campus should contact the housing office and submit their housing application early in the admission process. Housing is available on a limited basis.

Each International campus has a Housing Officer who can assist accepted applicants with on-campus or off-campus housing options. Refer to the various campus websites for additional information.

Non-Academic Issues and Admission
Webster reserves the right to deny admission based on non-academic reasons when it is believed to be in the best interests of the University. A disciplinary violation or criminal conviction may affect admission, enrollment, or course of study, whether occurring prior to the time of application, while the application is under review, or after the admission decision has been made.

Failure by the applicant to fully disclose this information on the application can result in revocation of the admission offer, disenrollment after matriculation, or other disciplinary action. If a student's application misrepresents any information, for any reason, admission or enrollment may be revoked.

If the University becomes aware that a student or applicant is a convicted felon, or is required to register as a sex offender, the University reserves the right to immediately dismiss that student and/or prohibit that applicant from enrolling in future classes, or limit the access of that student to specific campus facilities, based upon a review of the crime committed by the student/applicant.

Non-degree Status Approval
Students who do not plan to seek a degree from Webster may request approval to take undergraduate courses at the University as a non-degree student. Non-degree request forms are available from the Admission Office or the campus the student is interested in attending.

• A $35 non-refundable application fee is required. (Students who apply to become degree-seeking in a future term will not be required to submit a second application fee.)
• Completed non-degree requests must include unofficial transcripts that show the cumulative grade point average. A 2.5 GPA is preferred.
• Additional documentation may be requested. Students who are on academic probation or suspension at their previous institution are not considered for non-degree status at Webster.

When reviewing a non-degree request, Webster looks for evidence of demonstrated potential for academic success. Non-degree candidates who meet regular University admission standards for freshmen or transfer students are normally approved. Students whose degree-seeking application for admission to Webster has been denied are not eligible for approval as non-degree students.

Approved non-degree students must enroll for the full number of credit hours for a class published in the current course schedule. Registrations for non-degree students are processed on a space available basis beginning 30 days before the start of each semester. Non-degree students must document that any class prerequisites have been met and must maintain satisfactory academic progress. Non-degree students must pay tuition in full at the time of registration. Financial aid is not available to non-degree students. The University reserves the right to dismiss non-degree students without review or the right to appeal. Non-degree students may take up to 18 credit hours during any semester.

Non-degree students who would like to become degree-seeking may apply for admission for a subsequent term. A maximum of 30 credit hours may be earned as a non-degree student. Non-degree students approved for undergraduate study may not enroll in graduate-level coursework without a completed baccalaureate degree.

Notification of Decision on Admission
The University's admission decision is communicated by letter. Students who are admitted will receive enrollment confirmation materials with their acceptance letter.

Tuition Deposit
Full-time students who have been accepted to the University's St. Louis campus are asked to submit a U.S. $100 tuition deposit to indicate their intent to enroll. This deposit reserves the student's place in the entering class, and will be applied towards first semester tuition charges. Tuition deposits for the fall semester are refundable until May 1. Tuition deposits for the spring semester are refundable until December 1. Requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Admission Office.

Students accepted to an International campus should contact the Admission Office at that location to learn about any tuition or housing deposits that might apply in their individual situation.

Readmission
Degree-seeking students whose enrollment has been interrupted for one calendar year or longer must apply for readmission prior to resuming studies at the University. Readmitted students follow the academic policies and degree requirements of the catalog in effect at the term of their reenrollment, including meeting the current general education requirements. Readmission is normally requested through the Office of Academic Advising.

Students requesting readmission must submit official transcripts of all academic work completed since prior enrollment at Webster. Students must pay any outstanding balance in the Business Office before the student is permitted to enroll.. Students who voluntarily left the University while on academic probation will be readmitted on probation. See Academic Probation and Dismissal under Academic Policies and Information.

Study Abroad Information

All Webster University students enrolled at a United States campus and all U.S. citizens residing in the United States should contact the director for Webster University study abroad programs for admission information. All non-U.S. citizens who wish to apply as degree-seeking at an International Campus and all U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents (Resident Alien Card Holders) residing abroad should contact the Admission Officer at the international campus they wish to attend for more information. International campus address, telephone, and fax information is listed in International Campuses for Undergraduates.

Visas for Study Purposes
International students who will require a student visa to begin educational study in a country where Webster has a campus may need to provide additional documentation. Local documentation requirements can vary by campus depending upon the applicant's citizenship and/or country of residence at the time of application. Applicants should check with the campus they wish to attend for specifics.

Important: Applications from abroad should be complete and on file at the University at least four to six months before the desired entry term to allow sufficient time for accepted applicants to apply for a student visa. In addition, applicants should retain photocopies of all documents submitted to the University as these may need to be presented at the consulate/embassy when applying for a student visa.
