Expand Your World: Host an International Student Intern
Each summer, families in and around St. Louis open their homes and host Walker EDGE international student interns from partner universities in Germany and Mexico as well as Webster University’s international campuses including Leiden, London and Vienna.
The students work full-time for 8-12 weeks at internships at local St. Louis area businesses to apply their academic training to the workplace. With at least two years of college experience and proficiency in English, they stay with host families throughout the duration of their internships and these host families are as important to the success of the program as the internships themselves.
Hosting an international student intern is a wonderful way to learn about a new culture, expand one's global perspective and develop life-long international friendships. It is also a great way to rediscover Saint Louis through sharing your own culture. Students with diverse backgrounds and with a wide array of interests intern through the Walker EDGE and are eager to learn about American life first-hand.
In addition to a private place to sleep, hosts provide breakfast, dinner and food for a sack lunch. All other costs are the responsibility of the student. Host families do receive a stipend to help defray costs.

Our daughters have grown up with big brothers and sisters—a wonderful gift exposing them to the variety of life and cultures. Our exchange sons and daughters have enriched our lives. Our family is more involved and connected to this wonderful and diverse world.”
