Fort Leavenworth Alumnus Named White House Fellow
Ryan Janovic, who earned an MBA in 2004 from Webster’s Fort Leavenworth, Kan., campus, was named a White House Fellow for 2008-2009. White House Fellows are exceptional men and women who have shown great service to their country through professions such as medicine, education, business, science technology and the military. Only 14 people this year were selected for this honor by the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships.
The White House Fellowship program was founded in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson to give men and women who excel in their professional field early in their careers a firsthand experience of working at the highest levels of the federal government. After the fellows complete their year of service, they often go on to work for presidential administrations and serve in various other high-ranking governmental fields.
Janovic is currently a major in the U.S. Army and a credentialed special agent with 15 years of experience within the national intelligence community. He is also the operations officer for the Army’s largest strategic counterintelligence unit, responsible for sensitive espionage and counterterrorism investigations and operations throughout the United States and overseas.
Janovic deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he worked political, military and economic effects coordination within the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. He facilitated and directly participated in bilateral engagements with four of Iraq’s neighbors, including unprecedented talks in Syria and Saudi Arabia.
As a captain, Janovic received the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award, which was given to only 18 soldiers in the Army in 2001. A native of Akron, Ohio, Janovic was the youngest Eagle Scout in Summit County, and represented Ohio at the World Jamboree in Sydney, Australia.
Janovic remains very involved with scouting and assisting victims of violent crimes as part of the Victim Witness Assistance Program. He graduated from the Command and General Staff College and he holds an additional qualifier as an Army strategist. He earned a BS degree from the United States Military Academy.
