WHY IT WORKS

It works because it’s community-based. WebsterWorksWorldwide is a day when every Webster campus reaches out locally, whether it’s painting a shelter for battered women in Salt Lake City, serving meals in an Orlando soup kitchen or setting up a new school library in St. Louis. Through this face-to-face interaction, we can see the immediate impact of our time and outreach. And by developing on-going relationships with local agencies, each Webster campus provides a personal and relevant experience for its volunteers.

It works because it’s volunteer-driven. Team leaders, volunteers who serve as liaisons between individual volunteers and the agency or person in need, play a critical role in communicating the details of the project and coordinating volunteers. Individual volunteers select projects that matter most to them, lending their enthusiasm as well as their talents. Because of every individual effort, WebsterWorksWorldwide continues to grow every year in impact and meaning.

It works because it creates long-term relationships. Through their participation, many volunteers share feelings of renewed commitment to their communities and to community service. Often they choose to continue their service throughout the year or to seek new outreach possibilities. It absolutely wouldn’t work without the partnership between local community service agencies and Webster faculty, staff, administrators, students and alumni who helped it grow from an idea to an event to a tradition.
