Go to Theodore Roethke's "My Papa's Waltz" on the Web site for our textbook:
http://bcs.bedfordstmartins.com/virtualit/poetry/waltz_elements.html
1) Read the provided discussions of sound and rhythm techniques (alliteration, meter, and rhyme). For the first part of your assignment, post at least two comments about how some of these techniques contribute to the poem's overall meaning. (Use the discussion forum for our class available through Webster's Connections portal.) Post both comments before 12:00 noon on Friday, September 2nd.
2) Click on the "audio" button in the top left-hand corner of the page and listen to the two readings of the poem (one by Philip Levine and one by the author). For the second part of your assignment, post at least two comments to the discussion forum comparing and contrasting the two readings. How does each affect the overall meaning and impact of the poem? Post both comments between 12:00 noon on Friday, September 2nd, and our next class meeting on September 6th.
